Subject: early Nesmith Reply-To: Reelgeorge@aol.com Supposedly-From: George Gimarc [This message was sent through the www-email gateway.] -- Here's an addition for you. I've got a single from 1963(!) of Mike Nesmith doing "Well, Well" b/w "Wanderin'" Both are original compositions and are on the Highness Records Label #13. From other Texas records of the period, it may have been pressed up in San Antonio since it looks a lot like Renner Records from the same time. Mike himself told me this was his very first record, but I've never seen it listed anywhere. The '63 date comes from an autograph and date that Mike put on the label back when it was new. He came by WFAA TV at the time and auditioned for a folk show. My friend has his audition form he filled out that lists this as one of his few accomplishments to date. We also have a photograph taken of Mike on a stool, guitar in hand that went with the form. Let me know if anyone had any more info. I'n not on the list, so please send any replys to my mailbox. Thanks- it's about time someone knew about this redefinition of square one for Nez. Best! Paging Maggie McManus....Why Wasn't this LISTED??? Ahem, sorry! Anyways, I figured maybe some of you don't know of the other Nez 45s or how rare they are. I truly love Nez's music and the way it evolved from the '60s (protest music) to the '90s (New Age???!!!) 1963--Highness Records-- "Well, well"/"Wanderin'" like I've said, I know nothing about this one. But, should anyone ever be lucky enough to find a copy, expect it to be worth between$200-$300 in Mint-minus condition!!!! 1963--Omnibus Records "Just A Little Love"/"How Can You Kiss Me?" In my ten years of collecting, I've seen this 45 being sold once in an auction in Goldmine. It was in Good condition (that is, it looked and played like crap) and I bid $30....and LOST! Perosnally I would expect to pay (and probably would) about $200 in M- condition. 1965--Edan Records-- "Just A Little Love"/"Curson Terrace"Finding a stock copy (i.e. for people to but, not a DJ copy) is a LOT harder than a promo. Usually a promo in M- is $100. A stock could be about $25 more. 1965--Colpix Records-- "New Recruit"/"Journey w/Blessing" Yeah! Aren't protest songs fun? As is the case w/almost all Nez records, stock copies are harder to find (except w/ "Joanne" and "Silver Moon"). Usuall M- runs between $75-$125 (although this is starting to decrease thanks to "New recruit" being on a Rhino CD comp.) 1966--Colpix Records-- "Until It's Time.."/"Officer?" Be sureto turn up them harmonica parts REAL LOUD!!! (Does nez play that harmonica? Does he play on "Curson Terrace?")This one is rarer than the other Colpix one. add about $25. ---Joe Alterio 1965 From: jrhodes107@aol.com (JRhodes107) Subject: Nez tune origins Date: 3 Apr 1995 20:04:02 -0400 I have a tape of Nez rarities and several tunes are not in any of the discographies(Monkeemania LP and book, Goldmine etc) Anybody with details on Searchin, Fair Thee Well, Looks like rainn, Color of the Skin, My community, and One and Twenty I would be interested.
