Hi everyone! On CNN Headline news (entertainment news seg.) they
mentioned the Monkees and showed clips of the guys in concert with Nez
and clips from the series. The story was about how ABC is having
audtions for an MTV Real World type of show about a boy band living
together - one guy who audtioned said it's been done before with The
Monkees so he said it's like the rebirth of The Monkees. CNN usually
repeats their entertainment seg. so check your local tv guide for the
channel #.

I was a huge Monkees fan, then I became a David Cassidy fan, 42 with kids
that also have their teen idols.
I am married to a native american author, Manny Twofeathers. We also have
our own publishing business, although my husband's book Road to the Sundance
was published by Disney's Hyperion.
With that said, I wanted to let you know about a book I am working on in
collaboration with another writer/teen idol fan. The book is about the 4
generations of teen idols and their fans. The focus is on the fans, those
that met their idol, or how their teen idol changed their life or interesting
experiences that many long to be able to tell. It will also focus on how
this teen idol phenomenon has bridged a gap with daughters (today), mothers
and grandmothers (my mom was into Elvis), my daughters are into BSBoys,
Hanson, Ricky Martin and Aaron Carter (21 - 8 yrs of girls!)
I would like to ask if you would be interested in helping me cultivate
stories from fans, as well as your own story. You will receive a credit in
the acknowledgments, as well as space in the book on your own story,
including your website.
This would help promote your website and increase awareness of you being
there. I am sure there are others like me that are just discovering what's
out there.
It would also allow a vehicle to tell all these stories from yesterday and
today. It will truly only focus on the musical male teen idols. For the
purpose of my book, I will not be including rock stars or actors. And it
will span from the 1950's to the 1990's. Although the book will contain some
info on the teen idol, it truly will be for the fans. But I am hoping for
input from the teen idols themselves. I have a list of questions for fans
and a list of questions for the teen idol.
My own personal experience is that when I was 14 I met David Cassidy in
Seattle. That inspired me to want to become a journalist with the hopes of
one day interviewing him. That goal led me to becoming a reporter in
Vancouver, B.C. and interviewing the Beach Boys (Mike Love), Chicago (Robert
Lamm), Olivia Newton John, Lily Tomlin, Frank Sinatra Jr., 5th Dimension
(Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis), Elton John (1973 & 1974) etc. I had several
jobs between that experience which was between 15 - 18 years. Then at 26 I
became an entertainment publicist in Toronto and did publicity for such
productions as A Chorus Line, La Cage Aux Folles, Disney's Magic Kingdom on
Ice, etc. And that experience has helped me to promote my husband, establish
my own publishing company etc. My whole life was effected by my teen idol.
And I am certain there are many stories like mine out there.
So are you game to participate? I have a literary agent and a publisher in
New York interested in this property. But timing is everything and I have to
move quickly. Your participation would be greatly appreciated, and necessary
- you seem to have the best Monkee website, so please consider it.

Ultimate TV, which is part of WebTV Today (on bottom of the home pages
of Webtv users) had The Monkees tv show listed as #58 in the 100

Well what do you think - The Roseanne Show with Lulu (and David) will be shown on Channel 5 on 31st January at 9am here in the UK. It has already been shown in the USA.
So that means you will need to check - maybe with Channel 5 direct or in the papers to see when the Roseanne show with David will be shown.

Peter Tork Performance for CML Benefit
Shakir Shatnawi was diagnosed over Labor Day weekend 1999, as having Chronic
Myelogenous Leukemia. (CML) This form of leukemia cannot be treated with
chemotherapy. A bone marrow transplant is the only successful form of
treatment and must be performed in the first year and in the first stage of
the disease. Doctors at Stanford Hospital have confirmed that Shakir is in
the first stage. Bone marrow test have also found that his brother and
sister, who both live in Jordan, are the most likely donors. Shakir's
brother and sister will arrive in the US on January 31 and the transplant
should take place between the 10th and 14th of February. After the most
suitable donor is determined, they will be placed on medication to increase
the production of stem cells and healthy white blood cells. Shakir will begin
chemotherapy to kill his cancerous white cells and prepare him for the
transplant. This treatment last several days and must be completed before
the procedure can be perform. After the transplant, Shakir will be under 24
hour medical supervision for 100 days. This is an extremely critical time.
According to Stanford, in the first 3 and a half months the morality rate is
15% to 20%. This is because of the extreme compromise in the immune system
caused by the destruction of white blood cells. The good news is that after
that, the survival rate increases to 75 to 80%. The results of a successful
bone marrow transplant can go on to produce a long term remission or cure of
the disease.
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Denese Shatnawi and she is
very encouraged by the community support received and the medical technology
available to her husband. Denese is a teacher at Orchard Elementary School
in Rio Linda and works with Orthopedically handicapped children. I became
acquainted with her while working with one of her former students at Orchard.
Denese recently took a leave of absence so she and her three children could
move to the Stanford Hospital area to be with Shakir.
In the meantime, the PTA at Orchard School is planning to on hold a silent
auction to raise additional funds. This should occur in the mid spring. I
became involved when asked to provide an autographed picture of former
Monkee, Peter Tork, for the auction. Because of the contact I've had with
Peter and members of his band, Shoe Suede Blues, I suggested getting them to
perform a benefit concert on behalf of the Shatnawi's. Peter and the band
agreed to come and do the show. The concert is set for Sunday, February
20th, 2000. It will be held at Natomas High School in the theater. Doors
open at 6:30pm and tickets can now be purchased at the Box Office on Howe
Avenue. Price is $25.00. Tickets can be purchased over the phone at
916-920-1121.
My hope is that through this concert, we can have fun with some great music
while raising additional funds to assist with expenses not covered by
insurance.
I am extremely grateful to Peter Tork, Michael Sunday, Tadg Galleran, Stevie
Gurr and John Palmer for agreeing to perform at this benefit concert, for
believing in this vision and caring enough to be a part of it and to make it
happen.
