Hi all- I just heard Smash Mouth's remake of "I'm A Believer" that they did for the Shreck soundtrack. I wanted to get some opinions. I thought it was great, and I would be a proud Monkee if I was one. Anyone care to comment?

The recording of "Once Again" was timed for its release during the tour PT and JLS did this past Jan-Feb.
From what I've gathered, touring with SSB is what he really enjoys, and he's doing the Monkees thing again for the money; his solo stuff is a low priority. Also, "Straaaaaanger Things have Happened" was in the rumor/development stage for about 10 years before it actually happened, so the same may be true of the second album. Whether it be SSB, TMB, or his solo stuff, he doesn't seem inclined to record without some kind of deadline, like a tour.
JLS usually answers email sent to Beechwood, so I would email him/them with your question - and let us know!

Someone asked about the teeshirts. One is a gorgeous black with great big multicolored 60's flowers, and the guys as youngsters from a TV Guide photo. The back lists the dates. I got that one....LOVE it!
One is much plainer, and just has a logo, if I'm not mistaken.
The blue one (and I'll get flamed for this) is not what I consider very pretty. It's kind of a turquoise tie-die with a logo and the dates on it. Probably good for a guy to wear.
The tour guide is really, really nice...some of the best photos I've ever seen. And they had some neat little magnets.
The Live Cd is very good. David's webmaster did the design on the tour guide, as well as the logo for his Just Me cd, by the way. I didn't notice if she did the Live Cd cover work or not.

While I like the Monkees version better, I do think that Smashmouth did a respectable remake of the song. I hate it when bands cover songs and change the tempo or the melody. For example: I don't konw if anyone has heard Everclear's version of Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl," but it SUCKS!

Hi, Shaking your head.... I'm well over 21... not 21. Let's just say I'm over -31- and not a naive virgin. But I was stupid. I'll admit that. My point is that I learned something and hope girls who want to get on the bus/backstage/etc could maybe learn something too. There's a public persona and a private persona but men are men, and some aren't very nice even tho for all the world they are. Its that part about having (with -having- not yet been specifically defined) anyone he wants that's disturbing. Wouldn't you think that by the time a man reaches senior citizen age he would be looking for something more and not into head games? That's what I wrongly thought. It's not just the new fans who abandon the guys when the tour is over. I can't tell you how many "oldbies" I knew from way back when who dropped out of existance only to resurface this year. IMHO, there is no need to be a die hard serious "forever filled with monkee dribble" fan to be a fan. A butt in the seats and a cd sold is a butt in the seat and a cd sold, no matter if the person is a drunkard who think Mike Nesmith is dead or someone who has every Monkee book written memorized. Jut my opinion.

Just by you coming out and telling everyone your experience with this former Teen Idol is very big of you. Instead of people condeming you they should be happy you are warning other women out there. I am pretty sure when you were approached by this man he had a few drinks already. He is not the only one like this many of these men who are senior citizens think they can get whatever they want on the road. Many times he has not been successful. He will tell you he will call but will never. I always hope that all of these men or men in general take precautions when having sex but I do know that many times they do not. That is why it's wise for the women to carry around protection with them. Again my heart goes out to you and thank the lord you are fine but if I were you get yourself checked out because these people sleep with so many women. I hope other women read your posts and think before doing anything with any of these men or just men in general.

Did this man give you ANY way of contacting him? I too did something stupid, and I was much younger. I was under 21. This was years ago and I'm now much older. I did this thinking there would be more. When I realized he wouldn't be making any special effort to see me, that it had to be me driving to any show I wanted to see him at, I was hurt. I was given a way to contact him though, and I kept in touch and was treated with respect (as much respect possible considering we live far apart). We do keep in touch and see each other whenever we can, and I know where I stand and don't ask of anything more (and knowing what it's like on the road, don't think I'd want much more). If this man said to you "nice to meet you, bye," with no way of contacting him, I agree that is harsh.
There are many women who are in the groupie "biz," and musicians tend to think that any woman hanging around would be thrilled to get some special attention. Many women DO want some special attention, and they don't ask for anything more. I even know a website for groupies where the girls discuss which bands are "into" that scene and "good" each band member is! Someone posted once asking about the Monkees, but no one had an answer. I said nothing because I respect their privacy (and also I'm not a groupie for a living, the only band I know members of is the Monkees).
Once things get heated up I know it's hard to stop. I know in the back of my mind I was thinking "I shouldn't be doing this." I have heard stories of women who DO stop getting thrown out of the bus/hotel room/dressing room!! This is not the monkees, this is younger bands.
Anyway it is a dirty biz, but the fact is men want quickies and there are plenty of women out there willing to do it. Should the guys take a poll before they decide which girl is the sluttiest? I think celebrities are used to being coddled and given what they want at work, so they don't think much about others' feelings, just what they want. You WOULD think that a man in his 50s would be past that, but no, not when they can still get hot babes under 21!! Just look at Aerosmith or the Stones!! True the Monkees AREN'T these bands, but to some people they are the world.

The Beatles smoked everywhere, while I have never anywhere, behind the scenes pics etc., never have seen any Monkees smoke. I have seen a couple of pictures of Davy smoking...but on the "The Monkees Talk Downunder" CD, he says that he didn't ever want to do anything to influence young people in the wrong way, so was very careful about it. But I've also heard that they were told to be careful about those things. Davy also adamantly says "he's not married" on that CD, which of course, was untrue. But I like to think Davy did really have a conscience about what kind of influence he would have on his young fans.

Hey Jan, I was at the show too. Actually, Davy was referring to a Jan he met the previous night when he dedicated the song. She was in the group that was backstage with him. But, I believe they all left when he went out to his bus. I didnt realize he was on the bus with a bunch of girls. anyway, thanks for going the extra mile to bring them here....you'd probably have been completely taken care of if you worked at mix 97.7 as opposed to what seems to be a very disorganized oldies station lol! Unless you are one of their ex wives please do not comment about their failed marriages. Martial problems and affairs can exist with both sides. And sometimes it just because the two people are not right for either other. It is really their own personal business and noone else's. I'm sorry for those women who have had bad experiencies with Davy and the others. But not everyone has. I've know they are into relationships when the time is right and it's not always about a quick fling. A person is entitled to their feelings...whatever they may be. Mine is shame, embarassment and a feeling of being used. I didn't throw myself at anyone, either. I was led to believe I was special. I found out I wasn't. Rock stars are no different from anyone else and no one should intentially hurt another person, regardless if they dig ditches or sing with a band. I'm saying this because a lot of people are putting others (who shall remain nameless) on pedastils and they shouldn't be. They should be kicked in the can. They say one thing in interviews and respond to comments like they are as sweet as angels. But, a few people know their other side. And it isn't as pretty a picture as they would like you to think. Maybe if more slutty fans and young girls knew the real person they wouldn't be so anxious to go back stage or get on the bus. Being a senior citizen does not give the person a right to use others or "live it up" at their expense.

I'm really offended that you've decided that this board is for you "holier than thou" fans who are so into the MUSIC of the Monkees and not the madcap hilarity of their SPIRIT! When I've met/experienced The Monkees in the past (live and on tv, etc.) they have been FAR from the serious types. Yes, this is a wonderful forum for discussing their music and learning about The Monkees, but who says that casual fans and people who are just downright silly can't join in the Monkeeshines?

I've been totally devoted to these guys (to the point of nauseum for my friends and family) since I was 11 years old in 1986, and I've enjoyed their music and the tv show since I was about 5 years old.
IMHO, in order to keep The Monkees and their music alive, we need to have younger fans come into the fold. We would be foolish to say that the only "true" fans are those who enjoy posting about who was the guitarist on which particular take of a song. I do find that to be interesting, but it's so fact-based and droll. What about the creative side of the guys and their fans. I'm not saying that this should become a place where we're all saying how cute one guy is over another. I don't want it to be a place where the teenyboppers take over with all their crushes and stuff like that, but if fans want to express their opinions and while there are no set rules about the board (like there are on the Monkees List, etc.), then they are perfectly within their rights to do so.
I love the fact that we can gather here and discuss the desire for a Dork Stick or something like it to identify each other in the crowd. Otherwise, how would we go about finding each other at one of the concerts? I suppose we could all wear t-shirts that proclaim "I am a SERIOUS Monkees fan who doesn't want anyone Monkee around and get to know each other on the discussion boards", but then everyone would get us mixed up with you.

As I said in my post from earlier this morning (before I read this thread) I am going into the hospital today for a life-threatening illness that I've suffered with for 17 years. The Monkees themselves and their fans whom I've befriended over the years have been there with me Every Step of the Way. And I hope to make a full recovery and get back on this discussion board in no time flat. But if you don't see me around for a while, don't think you've gotten rid of me. I am always here in spirit.

Egads, what in the (excuse my french) hell? I was never with any monkees. I have more self respect than that. I repeat: I was never with any of the monkees. NEVER EVER. Even if one of them offered me money...ICK. The closest I've came, and it was far closer than I wanted to come, was one of them ogling at me. I told him where to shove it.
Somehow (through the wonders of Brad's CGI skill) the board is regurgitating parts of some posts and adding them onto the new posts. My post was not about sleeping with the monkees. It was about ignoring the other posts and was posted in another thread (you can see my orginal post under the post that bears my name).

Personally, I've liked "Kicks" since the first time I heard it in 1986. I think Micky's vocal is fantastic. The song has a slight edge to it which makes it all the more intriguing to me.

Ok, here is what the Monkees should do next year. First, set up a six month tour. Next, get Mike Nesmith to tour. Even if you have to pay him twice as much as the three Monkees combined, get Nesmith. Then, do a TV special with Nez writing and directing, but maybe a TV variety show with the Monkees, Natural, Boy Village, etc. performing. Then, finish the year with an album, a new CD written mostly by Nesmith with some help from the other guys. I think this would make 2002 the BIGGEST year of the Monkees career.

I think it should be an album they feel good about doing. The producer should be one who is willing to try to find the guy's strengths and weaknesses vocally, and work with that; updating The Monkees sound isn't good enough. No "We wanna be like Uncle Kracker or Kid Rock or SmashMouth".
Since they're recording in September or October and expect the album to be out before Christmas, getting the best sound would involve session musicians. If they want to write some of the songs, those songs should be picked because it seems like a good song to put on the album not because they wish to have a let one song written by a Monkee on the album.

Not sure about pictured Mike and Micky smoking,can't think of any off hand, but Peter and Davy sure did. In fact I think Davy has been pictured the most smoking (shocking huh?) don't forget all the dope they smoked... it was the 60's man!
As for The Beatles, they were cool, so smoking became all so much more the in thing amoung teenagers. The ironic thing about that is when Capitol re-released "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" again as a single in 1984 to celebrate The Beatles 20th Anniversary arrival in America, they airbrushed the cigarette out of Paul's hand on the record sleeve.

Yes, it was Brian White at Sunny 106.5 that screwed me so badly. I sent him a scathing email, and before it's over with, I may end up calling the station manager and complaining. Someone who lies like that has no business working with the public. I told him I was GLAD he didn't get the interview because he didn't deserve to share company with someone as nice as David!
It worked out well anyway. We got to speak to him in the parking lot....I would have been awful disappointed if I'd been backstage and he didn't even come out!

Sorry you feel offended, I'm sure from Mark's intentions and I know from my post that was not what was meant to happen.
No one is saying you can't have any fun here. That is not the point. The point we were stressing, besides the fair weathered fans that I brought up, is that The Monkees are never taken seriously because of the teenyboppers they seem to attract every tour. There is nothing wrong with being a teenybopper or a new fan. I just find it somewhat frightening that a 15 year old girl or even a 20 year old young women would be interested in 50+ year old men. It is one thing to be into the series as a show, or the music, but to be a fanatic fan of a young age talking “First, Micky, Davy and Peter come out wearing conductor uniforms and do Midnight Train while a cute chimp "drives" a little plastic train around the stage.” Is a little disturbing. Bubba Slim, how old do you think these guys are now?

We all wonder why The Monkees have yet to make it into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, or why radio didn’t play Justus, or maybe why The Monkees have to release a new live album at shows only. And the fact still remains that if you meet some guy, and ESPECIALLY someone like these guys, and have sex with them, then you should be smart enough to realize that you are a one night stand. If Davy wasn't Davy, but some, as you put it, senior citizen that you met in KMart, you wouldn't have given him the time of day. You scored a roll in the hay with Davy Jones (there's plenty who'd kill for the chance) and he scored sex with a pretty young girl. I would say it was a fair trade off. You won't get much sympathy from most of us.

Glad you liked Mike's video work. Now you have to go check out the films he's been involved with "Repo Man" and "Tape Heads".
As for the hopeless junk line, I suspect the teenybopper image was getting at Mike and he needed a cool line to shoot off to the press. The same reason I think he spent all his Monkee money cause he deemed it "dirty money".

Well, if you DIDN'T mean Davy, then excuse the error. What I said still holds, though. And I'm not excusing them because they don't need excusing. They do what every other unattached male in the world does....hit on women and try to score. If you sleep with a man you hardly know (I'm trying to NOT get too bad with the language here) then the man usually drops you. It's the universal way of things. If you want a man to respect you, you keep your clothes on for a reasonable number of encounters.
They aren't much different than the average man in a bar looking to pickup somebody. The same rules apply. It's just with them, the women offer it first.
And if you are thirty years old (or twenty or whatever) and you routinely sleep with 55 year old men instead of ones your own age....well, that's your choice, but I'm willing to bet it's not the case. I don't consider 55 a senior citizen, myself, either....those were YOUR words.
Besides, these guys may be 50-something, but they look and act 40-something, and they have been idolized for years.
You should know better if you are truly 30 years old. Your judgement sounds more like that of a mis-guided teenager looking for love and attention.

i only saw the monkees once so far and i think they are great! peter plats his banjo, guitar and the keyboards wonderfully....micky does drums and guitar and that drub that i cant think of the name od (tom tom?) and davy plays the tambouring (its true folks! thr guitar!)hehehe, and i think they are great! have you been to a concert yet? i just wanna say, dont make an opinion yet till you hear them live....but i will tell you ..they rock!

I have some great news I got right from David Fishof in response to my email!!!
I asked him if the guys were going to record a new album and he said "yes they're doing a record."!!!!!
Also, I asked if the August tour is going to happen and he said "yes august is happening."!!!
Last, and most important...I asked if this was really their "Final Tour" he said "no it's not the final tour they decided to stay together."!!!
I can't believe all this!!! I almost had a heart attack when I recieved this!!!

"Classic Pop" is what the Monkees need--like their songlist that has survived over 30 years and still sounds fresh! Maybe they should contact the people who wrote songs for them in the past--Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, Carole King (is Gerry Goffin still alive?), Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry, John Stewart, I think Paul Williams is no longer with us. Surely these people have some great unfinished songs lurking in their attics that they can dig up and redo and refresh and give to the Monkees to record.

I know what you mean Stacey, about people singing the theme song when they find out you're a Monkees fan. That's so annoying...and everyone that does it thinks they're being so original. Then I say, "Yeah, I've only heard that about ten times today!" and they have the nerve to get offended because I don't praise them for their vast knowledge, which was clearly displayed by the fact that they know the theme song (HEAVY SARCASM!). And since you're young, I'm sure you also get the "Oh my god, aren't they like 50 years old!" reaction from people...that's another one that bugs me. Okay, I'm done venting my frustrations now! :)

I admire all of them for making HQ and giving it thier best shot. Remember that when they started, instruments were not supposed to be part of the deal. I think Mike's HQ and Pisces guitar work was as good as any done by John Lennon a few years earlier. I don't think he rivals Harrison at a comperable period ( when the Beatles were just starting.)
I think Tork's keyboards were as good as any average studio musician of the period, but not a master.I would say his playing was as good as John or Pauls piano work on the Beatles albums (The stuff that was not done by George martin and Billy preston.) His banjo was closer to excellence. His bass playing during the live shows was as good McCartney's during a comparable period. See Sunny girlfriend. Tork's lead guitar parts during this tour have been excellent.
I love Micky but he was a poor drummer during HQ. But he did very well if you consider that he was not a drummer and had to learn. His drumming has vastly improved, see JUSTUS.
Davy was just an OK precussionist. Listen to his Tamborine and Maraca parts in HQ, they are sloppy. That being said, I have tried to play both of those precussion instruments and IT IS HARD! Those who laugh at the tambourine have no idea how hard it is to play one in time for the length of an entire song. This may sound funny, but Davy's Tam & Maraca playing during this tour shows that he has become very good at these often ridiculed instruments.
So on the whole, if you compare the Early Beatles to the HQ Monkees, and make the Beatles a 10, the Monkees were IMHO a 6.

Hello Ruthy! Those are good points you made. I often wonder how people would have reacted if the first two albums had listed the names of the session musicians instead of crediting the Monkees with the guitars and drums. A lot of fans felt mislead when Mike spilled the beans. (Was it Mike who told the press the truth?) What would have been wrong with letting Mike and Peter play guitars along with the session musicians? Then there wouldn't have been this huge revelation later on that has dogged the group ever since. I guess they did something right because a lot of great hits were made. What do you all think?

I just have one question for you. Did this happen backstage or on the bus? In the old days the men used to have their roadies bring women into their dressing rooms. We know these men are not sweet angels they are lonely on the road. They like the attention they are getting from the women. I guess it makes them feel young until you really get up close and look them in the eye. My advice to anyone out there if you plan on trying to get it on with one of the men just use some protection. It seems to me that the Monkees took the punishment for everyone that was using session musicians for their recording. It wasn't just them doing it, but they were the only ones getting any heat for it. Time didn't really allow for them to play the music on their recordings at that time, anyway. I still don't think that is particularly the reason why they are so under-appreciated. I think that is mostly due to the stigma of being pre-fabricated for the show. I think people tend to forget the fact that the Monkees were actors hired to play in a tv show. People tend to think that the Monkees were put together by studio execs at a cattle-call audition to make a teen-pop sensation BAND. That was the result, but not the intent.

Dearused I want you to know you are not the only one out there that has felt used. The reality is that these men are on tour and are alone they are no different then many men in their positions. I am glad they are not getting into any serious relationships right now. Two of them have broken up with their relationships and I am sure was hard on both sides but it never stopped either of these men for dating many different women. My warning to any of the fans out there that by their own choice want to be with these men even if it is for 30 seconds or more if you are going to do anything sexually please have safe sex. They have been with many women and in this day and age you never know what you might catch. Its no different with any other Joe either. I do have a question for you ms. used. Did this happen to you on a bus or backstage? I would never ask you which Monkee because to me that should not be made public. I already have an idea who he is. I hope you are doing much better. Finally the Early Show came through!! I'm glad they got to sing 2 songs completely! The comments they made about Mike were appropriate and they looked good, although a repair guy at my house said, "Is that Micky Dolenz?" I said, "yeah," and he said, "boy, he's put on a lot of weight," which I kind of ignored, 'cause I still adore Micky. And hey, at least Kelly Ripa knew something about the Monkees. What's Jane Clayson's problem? (she thought the Monkees came before the Beatles).

This morming I was watching the "early show". (It was good ) But the best part was my 2 year old son and 3 year old niece singing to "Daydream Believer". It was so cute. Riley, my son, also likes "No Time" and "Gonna Buy Me a Dog". To hear a 2 year old sing with me in the car is just as great as the fact that my mom has loved them since the 60's, I've loved them since the 80's and now my son in the new millenium! Makes my day!! Yes it's great you have all four autographs...I never get their autographs anymore because I just don't need any more, but I have yet to get Mike's.
Micky does love to flirt :-) Did a security guard give you guys the passes, or maybe a band member? Sometimes I feel bad when people get back stage just because of their looks, but many people get lucky and are given passes for many other reasons...I guess if it's meant to be it's meant to be.

I have to agree with you John on playing the tambourine in sync with the rest of the music.
When i was in seventh grade, i was the solo percussionist for my church's kids choir. This basically meant that i got to play the tambourine on the last processional song during mass.
And that was HARD! So, kudos go out to Davy for all his years of percussion work!

I too have only seen one Monkees concert, but let me tell you, I think they're awsome!
Peter absolutely blows me away in anything he does. His guitar and bass skills are of course great. But then there is his banjo and keyboard skills...when he played his Back piece at the concert, I just stared...I didn't even breathe for fear that the sound of my own breath would taint the perfect sound i was hearing!! Maybe I'm melodramatic, but I seriously thought it was that good. And his banjo- of course -is just undescribably awsome.
Micky is grand as well. His drumming skills are very fine, and he's really good at the guitar as well. While his instrument playing doesn't exactly take my breath away in the same way Peter's does, his voice makes my heart skip MANY beats :o). (Like you wouldnt' believe!!!)
As for Davy, I think he does a good job too. I mean, his tambourine and maracas are just classic, and his guitar playing isn't too shabby either! Trust me, I was watching their hands on their guitars the ENTIRE time they were playing "Circle Sky" and they were jammin!!! Davy actually broke a string getting down on that song! It was cool :):).
Anyways, wow I didn't think I'd get into that so much, but I guess I did, eh?! My point is that I think they are all excellent musicicians :)

Very true. I'm sure a lot of bands used session musicians then and still do to this day. The Monkees proved themselves very early on with "The Girl I Knew Somewhere", written and performed by the Monkees! Peter and Mike were very good musicians, Davy and Micky were great singers. A lot of people don't realize that.

Hey Metalmaden. Sorry it took me a while to get back to ya. I've been locked up in the hospital for a couple of weeks, and it's taken me some time to get through all these posts!
I'd have to say my fave eppy is usually whatever happens to be playing at the moment. I really get a kick out of the show, and it would be easier for me to say my least faves, which would be Monkees at the Circus and Captain Crocodile. I could do without those two. The other 56 eppies are my favorites. Is that a cop-out?
Lucky you, you're out of Bayonne, the armpit of armpits. I thought Jersey stunk in general, but I grew up in Central Jersey. Moved up here when I went to college and now I'm married to a Jersey City boy, so I guess I'm stuck here in this toxic waste dump located conveniently at exit 14A on the NJ Turnpike. Any tips on how to get the heck outta here? Maybe not as far as Texas, but New Brunswick would be nice.
Back to the original topic, I agree BIG TIME about She Hangs Out. Davy rocks that song, and he shows how much he loves it with the energy he puts forth during performances. Always a top "Davy dancin'" tune!

Yes, it's true. The last post I put up before I went into the hospital was not as lighthearted as I usually am, but that was a retort to some really hurtful comments aimed at me and the other silly members of the board. I can accept that. I just can't believe someone like Monkeescott was driven out of here. The poor man had people praying for his Grandson, and next think you know he's decided not to return to our board.
Like I've said before, I enjoy being a part of this community. I wish I could've done something to prevent all these people from leaving, but what's done is done. All I'm saying is, why did it have to come to this? Shouldn't there be room for conflicting ideas on this board? If we all agreed on exactly how to be a fan and which songs to like and whether or not a 59 year old man can be considered sexy to a teenager, the world would be a boring place. But let's not beat each other up about it. As Davy has said, "This is not brain surgery folks, it's The Monkees."
Brad, I'd love for you to comment eventually on what's happening with your board. Perhaps a moderator or two would be helpful. I know a few people who would be willing to take that job! I would hate to have this board censored, but if common sense is not the rule of thumb, somebody should lay down a few ground rules. Too many people's feelings are getting hurt! It's just so easy to attack someone when they are just a name, and they're somewhere out in cyberspace.
And just an aside to Sock It To Me, I'm surprised (and just a little bit humbled) that you remember my last post at all. Is that the name you usually go by? If so, welcome to this crazy board - because I don't remember seeing you around before. Forgive me if I'm wrong...

I am totally agreeing with you. I have been a Monkees fan since I was 6. I met my best friend in 3rd grade and I think we hit it off because we were both BIG Monkees fans. I don't think the popularity is there only because they are touring. I will admit that that may be the case with some, but since my parents always listened to the oldies, and liked the guys, that in turn made me the fan that I am today. I say be proud and support the Monkees and just laugh at all those silly little comments people make about them.

A sports writer starts out trying to debunk several myths (like George Washington and the cherry tree), but then he goes on to say that "several members of the Monkees had no musical aptitude whatsoever." I was going through some of my Monkees shows that have been taped throughout the years and was watching The Rosie O Donnell show last night. I believe the guys were on in 96. ON that show, Rosie asked where Mike was and they said he was in LA getting Justus ready. She made the remark that she heard it was because his mom invented Liquid Paper. The way they responded was by changing the subject and making sure people knew he was working on the album. Alomost as if they didn't want to evenjoke about it. I found it odd today on the Early show when asked about Mike, Micky said it was because his mom invented Liquid Paper and then they started joking about it. I know they were joking on both shows but find it kinda strange how the responses can change in attitude over 5 years. Anyone have any idea why that may be? (If that rambling made any sense)
Also, it was funny to hear Micky still using the white out messes up computer screens joke. He used it on Rosie. LOL
I'm sure they are sick of getting asked the question but they do handle it well every time.

If you notice, they're not playing their own music. I think in Nez's mind, it would a farce to be up there as the Monkees and not playing the music. He's always been adamant on that point. I don't agree with him, but that's my theory about why he's not on this tour. He probably was approached, but when learned that the band wouldn't actually play, he said, "Forget it!"

Thanks, you all make good points. Peter was very good on guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, etc. Mike was a pretty decent lead guitarist, as good as many from that era. Micky was okay on drums, but he didn't care if someone else played them as long as he sang lead. Davy was a good percussionist. I'm impressed that he's jamming on guitar nowadays! I'm gonna have to get out and see them the next time they come to town!

Well, they would be able to play their own music if Mike would just join them! It's proven that musical trios work, drums, bass, lead, but neither Micky nor Davy are at the point in their insturments where they could comfortably carry the show. It's the same as back in the sixties when Peter quit and they had to bring in Sam and the Goodtimers. It has everything to do with there needing to be at least two people who really know what they're doing. Mike has millions of reasons not to go back with them, but I don't think having a back-up band is his major point for refusing to join the tour.

I don't know that a moderator would help. As it seems, people always hate the moderator. People gripe about being censored, people say "if nobody wanted to hear it, it wouldn't get talked about." I speak from experience and from watching other boards. When a moderator actually does his job and moderates, people hate him. When a moderator doesn't do his job, people hate him too. Either way, there is going to be a lot of whining :-)

Chris and I never declared ourselves, nor do we consider ourselves, "holier than thou." Perhaps you need to realize that in the adult world it is not smart to put words into someone's mouth or to characterize a person you have never met. I refer you to Sue, Cory, Scott, John, Ree, Deborah, Teresa, DHMF, etc., who have been here since day one, for a second opinion.
In my original post I never said this had to always be a serious place, I also said there was room for fun. So if we are "seriously boring folks" it is you once again making haste judgements out of the blue, something that was not done before. I can answer that...because it's one of the best discussion boards I've ever participated on here on the internet, and certainly the most fruitful one when it comes to the Monkees (thank you Brad).
And finally, us so-called "serious fans" have done plenty of "Monkeeing" around on this board since its inception. It just seems odd now that the place is being bombarded with 'love' threads or 'how cute they are' threads and the like. A young teenager obsessed with near 60 year old men is not 'normal', I'm sorry.
This will be my last post about this subject. I made my point in a thoughful, rational way without diving into the deep end. Plus, there's too many other awesome new posts to weed through and respond to besides arguing with you.

Chris Cruz, I see your point. I wonder if this is a problem for Nez. He did permit the backing band to join the quartet for the second half of the show during the UK 97 tour. It worked out well.
However, to me, the Monkees are not one of those bands that I feel the need to always be seen up there playing alone, just them, with no backing band. Most big acts have backing bands. Hell, Paul McCartney has a backing band. Tom Petty has the Hearbreakers AND a couple others who round out the sound. REM does the same, as did the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Dave Matthews Band, etc. etc. They all had extra musicians onstage with them. Sure, the Monkees were one hell of a power trio in the Sixties when on the stage, but times have changed. A full band is now needed to round out the sound and re-create the records precisely the way they were made.
If Mike is haggling over the fact that the trio takes a back-up band out with them ( and a fantastic one at that), then I believe IMO that he's over-reacting. I for one was front row in March and watched Peter do the leads on "Clarksville," "PVS," etc etc. Micky did the acoustic guitar lead parts on songs like "Look Out" and "The Girl I Knew Somewhere." It's fine to me that they do the lead parts that way, but also have a band to fill out the sound.

And as it happens, I am one of the people mentioned that exchanged e-mail addresses and screen names with others. And I assure everyone that we talk about LOTS of stuff off-board, not just the Monkees. We aren't neglecting you guys. As far as the curious response to questions of his whereabouts on "The Early Show", my theory is that they want to give the impression that the 4 of them are just like they were on the show: happy, fun-loving friends. I don't think they want to get into an ugly, bitter split during a 5 minute tour-promotion segment.

I hear ya, Andrea, and you know I'm with you all the way. But this has all been covered before. This sounds cold and mean, but my belief is....We're here to voice our thoughts, we have every right to do so. I would not have a problem with a moderator, depending upon the conditions that would be set. That is, what would the rules be? You know? I mean, nothing dirty has been said and even the swearing has been extremely minimal. I still consider this board, when it's not bickering, very friendly. It is only when people look for trouble that trouble happens.
There have been days when I've checked out the board and been bored silly 'cause nothing interested me. Did I rant about how uninteresting all of the most recent topics were and slam my door on you guys forever? No. And to those of you who are about to retort and say that it's different, I am aware that it's different. But it's still comparable, and I still maintain the belief that nothing really offensive has ever been said here.
Would I be persecuted if I made inquiry about an individual Monkee's sex life? Or drug experience? I would only be talking about the factual history of a the band we're here to discuss. But I know that would offend someone. Come on, we either have to draw the line somewhere, or else agree that there is no line and accept what follows maturely.

Oh, I almost forgot--Peter also talked about the '97 tour and how Mike started out with them, but then he left and they couldn't find him, so they went to his house and there was 6 weeks worth of dust on everything and no Mike in sight. So, they basically said, no one's heard from or seen him in years. Peter also said last he's heard, Mike's in Santa Fe.

But I am not following the board closly anymore because of 1: the screwed up format and 2: the substance. I found that whole line about Davy sleeping with some woman or many women to be unnecessary on a board that is for celebrating the Monkees. You say you can't figure it out, but hey, you and the others chose to go down the road of no return with all of those immature posts....so now you pay the price. Wake up! I can't stand when people create a mess and then try to divert the blame to somebody else and cry innocent, when it was you, Andrea, and your cohorts (the dork stick people) who ARE the problem! And to Estrella, the discussion would have never simmered down. The die-hards would always be around to talk Monkees. But they're all gone now so whoever said it before (Mark? Chris? Yeah - it's on the Shrek soundrack (which I immediately bought after seeing the movie). Smashmouth did a really cool version. Eddie Murphy's version is pretty funny. My sister and I went to see the movie (we were the oldest ones there without kids with us) - I highly recommend it :)

I know this is a "wishfull thinking" kind of post, but IF there ever was a Monkee's "Storytellers", what songs would you want to know the story behind? I think it should only include songs the Monkees wrote, so the show would have to include Mike too(yet again, "wishfull thinking"). I agree with Vixen. You know, if there was a moderator, there would be those who would jump all over him for overly doing his job, and those who would do the same for him under-doing his job. It really seems to me that the older posters of this board get hurt far easier than the newer/younger posters. Seeing as how the majority who has quit just before the miracle have been Mark, Chris, Monkeescott, DHMF, etc. Not to name names because I wish they still were here. Is it that hard to skip over posts you don't like? They made excellent posts and the board suffers without them here. I suppose that in all our lives, this board means nothing in the long run and so therefore is not worth the trouble. But why not live for the now. Give yourself a challenge and stick it out. A few were sooo positive that the silly posters would be gone in a few weeks or something, but it seems vice versa now, doesn't it. Which is a shame, I think. So many people could have jumped all over the thread about Davy being a womanizer but most just passed over it in disgust and left those intrested to their own devices. Which worked out great. It would be nice to have every poster on this board interact postively with eachother, but this isn't a utopia; it's an internet disscussion board! Not to say that nothing good can come of it (as DHMF has pointed out), I met a girl a year older than me on a similar board, she lives in Germany. I have now known her for over a year and if the ocean didn't seperate us, we would be as close as sisters. It is as if we once knew eachother, but one of us simply had to move away. And Stacey is now friends with Anna's best friend and so we have this small family all the way over the Atlantic Ocean and it's wonderful! The ironic thing about all this is that if people didn't reply to the silly posts, they would die out quickly, but since people ridicule them, they keep going and going until a nice granddaddy like Monkeescott is forced from the board (Or rather leaves of his own free will). Mind you, despite DHMF's attempts to reconcile; he really didn't mean any harm. But to no avail. Since I joined this board.... a few weeks ago (about a month), it is really different. Partly because of the technical difficulties; but it's much more chaotic now. It seemed so mellow, and layed back. Actually Monkeescott was the reason I stuck in here, because of his grandson, it was a MONKEEFAMILY!!!! But it's like the members of the Monkee family all caught some deadly disease, weeks after the new born baby arrived! (Bad analogy... sorry :o) We even found our backstage angel from our concert here! The one lady in the whole world we actually talked to backstage and who we owed something to, and we found her here! Amazing! I don't know about some people, but I usually don't get peronally hurt by this board, I usually laugh, "What a jerk!" or something like that, and leave it at that. It works great. And about talking about the Monkees's peronal lives on the board and how it's such an DISGRACE!!!!! I read on this page...from Brad himself... that the board was to discuss the buisness aspect of the MOnkees, the music, the show, the men they have become, the careers they have developed, as well as their personal lives... in a tasteful manner of course. Like Jessica being deaf... or Mike's wife/girlfriend (?) Victoria.... but a lot of people think that even that is a waste of time. How can we love these men and not discuss their personal lives? Music derives from within.... within can't all come from an office building or a studio room.... it comes from other places that we are not a part of, mostly. But does it hurt to discuss it on a simple interent board? It's not like we're walking into Mike's kitchen while he's having a family dinner! One more thing.... Lurker?... Is that you Mark? I really think it is. Just read the way he gets on Andrea's case... so hurt by it... apparently. And also the way he'll suddenly exclame things like "Wake Up!" So typically Mark... Welcome back babe! Wow! Here's my two cents:
First of all, I'm stunned by the huge response to the new bulletin board! Where did all you people come from!? I can't even keep up with the discussions!
Secondly, every now and then someone posts something I find silly or even, occasionally, mean (either toward The Monkees or toward other post-ers) & I think the best response is to ignore them. IF there are freaks out there (and I'm not calling anyone in particular a freak - in fact, I think we all have a little freak in us or we wouldn't spend so much time posting messages on a Monkees website!), ignore their posts & they'll lose interest. I think nearly all of us - no matter the age - approach this board with SOME degree of seriousness, because people tend to be serious about the things they feel passionately about, anb that that tone of reverence will likely dominate the overall proceedings, even if there is the occasional freaky suggestion or broadly comic relief.

I certainly agree with your points Mark and if I may add that while the back up band for this tour is terrific, they serve only to compliment the Monkees and do not deter or steal the limelight away from the three at all. Everyone there was there to see those three men perfom and I don't know if Alvin and the Chipmunks played back up if anyone would have really cared when Micky Davy and Peter walked on that stage it was all about them!

Soooo, did everyone watch the Monkees this morning on the Early Show? I even woke up at 7 AM just to record and watch it! And that is early for me considering I'm a high school kid on summer break who usually sleeps till noon. (Of course I did go back to bed as soon as it was over at 9:00! :) Yay, I was so happy to see them! I haven't seen them on TV in quite a while. Of course, I did meet them two months ago, so i guess I have NO ROOM to complain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) But I really thoroughly enjoyed how Peter broke in on Micky's conversation with (what's his name?) that reporter guy saying "I'm sick of you always being our spokesperson with that damn Vulcan example!" or something to that effect. I love peter!! And it's true, Mick needs to lay off the Vulcan thing. Of course, now his new analogy which he used was "It's like George Clooney really becoming and emergency room doctor" Oh, Micky, Micky, Micky........
But I didn't like how the reporter talked to each one of them, and then all these chicks screamed when he talked to Davy!! If you are going to scream for Davy, you'd better be screaming for Micky and Peter too! 'heart throb' indeed! :):):)
You know, I was in Santa Fe just this last weekend, but I didn't run into Mike. Too bad, huh? :)

When I found this board back in March, I was really psyched and was welcomed with "open arms" by Mark, Chris, Tyme, Suzannetigger, DHMF, et al. It was a great place to be a newbie and we had a lot of great discussions. Unfortunately things change - inevitable with all things. I am glad to have met my "MonkeeBuddies" like Andrea, Sue, etc. This board also helped me & Andrea to hook up and work together on the Monkeestock plan. I didn't even mind the crazy posts that showed up in the middle of the board :)
With a lot of new projects (including Monkeestock) and facing the danger of losing my job, I don't have as much time to devote to discussion boards - as great as the discussions have been. I tried to stay out of the last rehashes of this tiresome argument, but I'm now stating my piece. I love this board and the community of posters that was formed. A lot of you new posters are really fun to read and I hope you continue after this summer's burst of MonkeeMania. As for the "older" posters, I was sad to see them depart from the board, but I understand their frustration. I have joined them on the *other* board, but will continue to visit here when I can. I agree with Andrea however, that a moderator may be needed. I am also against harsh censorship, but I think that it is necessary when some people don't consider the feelings of other readers. I miss the community that developed from the old board, and I hope that once all this mess is in the past we can all get along and respect each other and the Monkees.

I'll tell you where he is... he is SOOO "Lurker"! Is it just my imagination, or does anyone else see this? I mean, I see what he's talking about, because there is a difference between friends and aquaintances (although I'm sure he'd agrue that he is not the aquaintance of anyone either...) but that doesn't mean that friendships can't develop and it certainly makes things better to call eachother friends. It's not really that he's negative, he just really doesn't like... people? Or something. Not enough Tolerance. Read the book "A Patch of Blue", Mark, because it teaches how tolerance can be a wonderful and respected thing! And it can. Now, I'm not jumping all over you or attacking you, so please don't take it that way... But we both like the Monkees and well, that's a lot. I think many of us are tip-toeing around something without acknowledging it: There is clearly more and more of a split between the posters here. Cliques have formed also, which is natural and inevitable. And, incidentally, Mark...oops, I mean, umm..what are you going by now? Lurker, is it? Well, I do consider some of the people here my friends. If you can't understand that, it's because you are resentful for not being a part of any of the cliques that have formed.
The bottom line: The Overly Sensitive Easily Offended Ones want a moderator to either scare us away or else to keep us in line. The Free Speakers Who Still Believe In A Three-Letter Word That Starts With "F" And Rhymes With "Run" are thinking that, if the others get offended enough, they'll just leave. Either way, in the end, there will be two groups, and we will be Monkee Fans Divided. Whatever. I don't care. I'm here to talk and share ideas and meet people. I've done that and continue to do that. And I know who my friends are and who I can count on. But the problem is...neither of these scenarios are really going to happen, and we are all stuck in an uncomfortable position.

I got into this big argument with an uncle of mine (who's about 45, and usually pretty cool) he was going off about how strange it was that I liked the Monkees because (quoting Jimmy, my uncle) "They're older than I am!!!" to which I said, "yeah, and they're hotter too!!!" Upon the advice of Chris Coyle and Suzannetigger, I thought I'd better check this board out for the first time in a week, and what did I find when I arrived? I seem to be the Million Dollar Man around here! I'm sorry to disappoint, but I'm not the post-er named 'Lurker.' Michelle, A couple of us have given away Monkee related stuff here on the board. I'm a member of another board and usually it's a no-no to sell on a board like this. Also, you have no recourse if something goes wrong. Some people here have mentioned that they're selling something on ebay, so we can check it out if we're interested. I think you ought to check out ebay or half.com if you want to sell something. Then you can let us know if you've listed it, in case there are interested buyers. Ebay and half.com will protect you in case a sale fails to go through. It's less risky.

The show is actually in Cary, NC, just outside of Raleigh. It's at the Regency Park Amphitheater. There are a thousand reserved seats at $33 and then general lawn admission at $23. There is no seating chart available.

Rocker: Micky Dolenz is one of the most under-rated American pop/rock singers of our time. I can say that with a serious face and I will argue that point with anyone. He is the voice and sound of the Monkees' music.
Perhaps I will agree that from the start, the session players should have been credited on the albums. What exactly was Kirshner and company afraid of? Actually, back then, there were no big detailed liner notes accompanying albums like there are today in modern CD booklets. Gosh, did the Beatles even get credit on their albums as to what instruments they played on what song? I don't think they did.
My father to this day always remembers the stigma of them "not playing their own instruments," and unfortunately, I don't think that will ever go away.....no matter how much us true fans know the real story! Ya just gotta keep spreading the word and set the record straight!

I do believe the Monkees will make a album. I am praying it will be better hen Justus which I thought was one of the worse thingsthey ever recorded. As a couple of us have been "challenged" to post something new and unrelated to all the crap that was going on, and something Monkee-related, I am stepping up and accepting the challenge.
Anyone care to share their Ideal Dream Setlist, including the actual sequence, and different versions? Which song, if Last Train to Clarksville wasn't an option, would make a great opening number?
I think "That Was Then, This Is Now" would make a good opener, and I'd like to see "Your Auntie Grizelda" and "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow" closer to the end of the show. "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" works well at the end of the show, and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" really is a great closing number. But "I'm a Believer" I would like to see somewhere in the middle. And if I had to pick a song that isn't "Pleasant Valley Sunday" to close with? Well....I'd have to say either "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" or "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)". "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere" and "As We Go Along" would be good towards the end of the show, and I'd definitely like to see Peter's rendition of "I Don't Think You Know Me" in there somewhere.
There you have it. I could have done a whole setlist, but I'm just not in the mood. :)

Hmm... you know, I really liked what they sang at our concert. I'd like them to open with something really inspiring like Listen to the Band. I'd love for them to sing more of their songs from Justus. Definitely Micky should sing "Never Enough" and "Unlucky Stars", and Peter should sing "I believe you". We really wanted Pete to sing "Gettin in"! Uh... "What am I doing Hanging 'Round" would be ideal, but strange not in Mike's voice. "Can you dig it?" definitely should be there. A good closing sequence would be... "Porpoise Song" and then... I really did like "Daydream Believer" being last (despite my grudge for it, it was magical!) O yeah, Davy should sing "So goes love"! I love it, man!

I've been trading emails with all three of them since I saw them in Vegas. Their names are Eric Biondo (trumpet, short, black hair), Greg Biggler (trombone, curly black hair, glasses) and Sam Albright (saxaphone, blond) Now that they're on tour, they can't reply as much, but they said Regis and Kelly was really fun, and that they weren't going to be on The Early Show. Still waiting to hear why from them. Most of what I learned about them I got from www.the-monkees.net We mostly just talk about music and the tour. Apparently, they're having a great time!

The concert was excellent!! I was right next to the stage where Peter was. I even was able to get his autograph on my picture of the four of them from the sixties. I am sorryabout the girl who got used by Davy and to Jan who was given a hard time about getting a pass backstage and meeting them. A girl that was right behind me got a backstage pass. Some guy was just handing them out to people down by the stage. I wasn't lucky enough to get back there but my picture made it back there and Peter signed it and remembered it also. He should have I flashed it in his face every song they sang. Oh yeah and I wrote down the set list. Last Train was the opener of course. How old are they? One of them looked pretty young at the lowell show (bear in mind I had balcony seats for most of the concert) I had to turn to one of my girlfriends and ask them whether or not he was a young musical prodigy of some sort. The Cd you have on the way was the forth album Mike recorded for RCA. His band had just slit up and only Red Rhodes his steel guitar player remained. Red also plays steel on The Monkees "Steam Engine".
Anyway, RCA told Mike they wanted more hits like "Joanne" which was a top 20 gold single for Mike. Mike's albums were selling less and less each record. So Mike titled this LP "And The Hits Just Keep On Coming" kinda a snide remark for RCA. This album only featured Mike and Red. Moving closeraway from counrty and more poetic. I think you will like... put on some low dimmed lights and sit back and listen.

The Beach Boys didnt play on their albums after the first 2 records until the end of the 60s. I'm glad they didn't myself.
As for The Monkees, I do think Don K was trying to hid the fact they weren't a real band. If they came out front and gave the credits, maybe we wouldnt have to be answering these same questions today. But no albums back then gave credits for these LA guys that were used. I have to tell you..they were on EVERYTHING out of LA. It's just the media thought The Monkees were a real band before they were a TV show. It makes sense today how they came to be and how they progress into playing their instruments. If they hadn't become a real band I dont think we'd be talking about them today.

His official role I guess would be promoter, though I'm not sure what that job entails. He and his team did something like auction four tickets and backstage passes only to get the word out, it didn't matter if anybody made a bid or not. I don't know if he also helps book gigs.
On a national level, there's little promoting of the tour, but on a region by region level, I'm guessing Fishof tries to get venues to be interested in booking The Monkees.

i too traveled from birmingham to knoxville for the concert. there was not a bad seat in the house. natural played about 40 minutes. there was a 20 minute break to set the stage up and then out came the monkees for roughly 2 hours. they started with last train and ended with daydream believer. the encore was i'm a believer, steppin stone, and pleasant valley sunday. in between peter played lead guitar and keyboards, micky played rythm guitar and the drums on 2 songs (auntie grizelda and mary, mary), and davy played guitar a little and percussion. in their "solo" sections, micky did since i fell for you, peter did lucille and his bach solo, and davy did girl instead of the oliver medley. during girl he came out into the audience and really caused a stir. they all appeared to be having lots og fun...making each other laugh as well as us in the audience. having only seen the 86 tour...i was more than impressed with the performances of not only the monkees but the backing band. i bought the live cd and while it's good...it's not as good as the show i saw. so i'm hoping they will put out a dvd of one of the summer shows.

LOL! Yer daughter is right to say you are tough, and bravo to you! We have boys in our marching band that can barely lift the tuba without complaining (but they're band geeks so its ok!). Although I play a heavy instrument myself, (The melophone, it's front heavy so it kills my back) it's no where near the size and weight of those blasted tubas!

The re-recorded three songs "Valleri", "Steppin' Stone" and "Daydream Believer" that feature Natural as back-up singers has been reported to be in the hands of Perlman's TransContinental label, who's planning or maybe waiting for a better distribution deal(?). This delay had made Fishof upset because he hoped to send the recordings to radio stations during the spring tour. Who knows if those recordings will ever be heard by the public.

Boyce and Hart were pretty much, if not completely, absent from the HEADQUARTERS and PISCES sessions. They were none too happy that Chip Douglas had become the full time producer for the Monkees. They had also set out on a solo career and had a minor hit in 1967 called "I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight."

They're all in their early to middle twenties. I personally think Eric looks the youngest. He's really short. If you can hit the lowest of band geekiness, I've hit it. I'm a 14 year old girl, and not only am I in the school band and orchestra, I play in a punk band on the side, as well as a Bagpipe band. That's the gift of being a drummer. You fit everywhere. I've been playing bass drum for the pipe band since I was 11, and let me tell you, at the Highland Games, when all the bass drummers line up for mass bands, and there's these big forty year old guys with 'skinny' drums, which weigh about half as much as a full one, and little 'ole me, staggering under the weight of a full drum, they quit their moaning pretty quick :)

Yah, everyone thoght my sister was hot! Shoe Suede Blues opened for the Monkees, and backstage when we were talking to them, Peter introduced Lacey (my sister) to the drummer and told her "you know our drummer wants to take you home with him" needless to say, Lacey IS my hero now!!!!!!!!! ;)
Yah, it was partially her good looks that got us backstage. I think maybe it was just a fluke that we got back! We were the last people who were let back, and there was only one other person who got backstage without a pass. But dont think I didn't get a full appreciation from it!! I love them soooo much!!! And I actually know more songs than "I'm a Believer"!!!! Not to brag, but I knew all the words to every song they sang that was by them originally. And a couple others, too! (Lucille, Purple Haze...) :p :) ;)

I think it was one of the first posts on the Monkees Alert that came through last night--a lady named Eileen said she had seen the Monkees perform in 1963(???) and had gotten their autographs on a menu. This can't possibly be right can it? I mean, they didn't hold auditions until 1965. Do you think she got the year wrong? And I kind of have a hard time believing that they performed anywhere that early in the going, even before the show premiered. Anyone else notice this?

What on earth do you mean 'an enigma'? Mike is the lead guitarist and singer/songwriter in the band. Peter stands in for him on lead guitar when he isn't on stage, but no one has ever presumed to stand-in when it comes to writing the songs, even though both Micky and Peter are very gifted songwriters.
Mike has always said he prefers Micky to sing his songs.
Mike writes...Peter plays...Micky sings....er...if anyone is superfluous it has to be the other one dosn't it? Let's face it, what looks he had have gone and he never had anything else to offer.
If you wanna slag off Mike, dear...remember, he had the good sense to get out when the going was good!

I remember why I have been a fan for 14 years! They did all the hits as well as time for each Monkee to do their solo time. I was in the lawn, but I had a great view! Loved the way they interacted with each other, as well as the backup band. Davy actually looked tan to me. Can't wait to see them in AC in better seats (5th row!) Monkee love forever

Apparently you are responding to an old post from way down the list that got attached to someone else's. I was NOT criticizing Mike Nesmith's talent in that post. "Enigma" means puzzle. His behavior in recent years toward the other 3 Monkees is most puzzling. He wants to do something with them (1996--97) and then abruptly leaves, telling them nothing. At other times, in some interviews, he talks about the years with the other 3 as fond memories, then other times says he really remembers nothing about that. That was what I was referring to--his puzzling behavior, and nothing else.

I agree that it's a weird matchup but I'm not sure why. Both bands were very good at what they did. They're both basically guitar bands, so the differences aren't as much as Backstreet Boys and Phish in my opinion. I wish the people in the crowds would have opened their minds a little instead of booing Jimi off the stage. (I bet a lot of them later regretted doing that now that Hendrix is so respected as an artist.) I think it gives the Monkees bragging rights that a great talent like Jimi Hendrix opened for them.

She was really nice and found out that she even graduated from my high school back in 91'. She even gave me $5 and her address to send my pictures of the concert to her after I got them developed. Well, I handed the address to my mom and she ended up losing it...I've felt so bad. Gave me money and let me sit w/her and I can't even remember her name. I know a lot of people from different places post here...so if anybody knows this lady, I'm sure she has told her friends how horrible I am for not getting in touch, I would be glad to hear from you...btw, she lives in the Jacksonville area.

Over the years, on this and many other boards, people have wondered how young women can find men the guys' age attractive. It strikes me that none of them are ever linked socially with women over 30, so why wouldn't it be OK for young women to be attracted to them? It appears there's a double standard at work there - older men finding younger women the only women who are attractive is correct, but young women finding older men attractive seems to be taboo.
I SWEAR I'm not bringing this up to be weird or argumentative - I really wanna know what people think!

Oh, if they were to really let ME choose the set list, I would first have to spend hours of wrapt contemplation on the matter. :)
I agree with Julianna that the first song should definitely be something inspiring, magical, and something that the band can just burst into while the guys appear on stage. I think "Listen to the Band" is a very ideal song for the opener.
I too liked the set list for the Albuquerque NM show although I wished I could have heard a few songs that they left out (Can You Dig IT, Look Out, Shades of Grey, Gettin In, Oh My My, etc...). I liked having songs like She Hangs Out and A Little Bit Me A Little Bit You towards the beginning, because they're great for getting the crowd energized- especially the way Davy gets down on She Hangs Out! OW!! :D
I think that the set should start it's closing with something that is guaranteed to make me cry like Anytime Anyplace Anywhere, and Daydream Believer. I also think they could try something like It's Not Too Late from Justus- that just seems like such a song of closure to me.
I'm sure I could write far more on the subject, but I think that gives a sufficient idea of what I'd like to hear-see in a concert! :)

After the second season of the Monkees' TV show, the quartet was interested in doing a third season. However, they were not willing to do a another season in the same vein of the first two seasons.
During the second season, the individual Monkees began to highlight some of their favorite acts. Davy had Charlie Smalls on, Micky had Tim Buckley appear, Mike had Frank Zappa. Peter and Micky began to direct and Micky was writing scripts. The Monkees themselves wanted to change the format of the show to a variety show hour, where they would have guest artists perform solo or with the Monkees as a group or individually. Variety shows were big in the late '60s and into the '70s. I always wondered what would have happened if the 'powers that be' had accepted the Monkees' idea.
Obviously, Columbia rejected the idea for a variety Monkees hour, and thus, the whole show was just cancelled. The Monkees were still pulling in very decent numbers ratings wise, so if the guys had agreed to go ahead for a third season with the same old format, it would have happened.

Well, I can DEFINITELY see what must have been going through Micky's head when he and Peter first saw Jimi at Monterey Pop. Like Peter said, "Micky got it. I didn't get it..." but he did later apparently :).
Anyways, I think that maybe it was a good idea at first. I mean, they probably thought that maybe it would give Jimi some good exposure to open for them. But they definitely should have thought about the audience. Similar to what Mark J Meli said, you don't have Kid Rock open for Britney Spears or 98 degrees. It's a totally dif audience. I mean, at that time, the majority of the Monkees' fans were 12 year old girls who were madly in love with Davy. And Jimi didn't exactly appeal to most of those girls.
All in all I think that it was just a good intention that didn't quite have all it's aspects thought through.

I don't think that Mike actually "tricked" the guys into coming to England with the pure intent of dumping them off shortly thereafter. I think it was more likely a case of Mike just got sick of touring, or maybe some things were not working out very well, so Nez left. And perhaps he disappeared without telling the guys because he didn't want to put up with them trying to convince him to stay, ya know? I dunno, this is kinda just my own hypothesis on that whole thing.

I was at the Westbury show and there were signs all over saying no cameras or camcorders. Once the show started the flashes from the cameras snapped like crazy. They did not stop anyone from taking photos. But DO NOT BRING a camcorder that they will take away from you. There is a lot of security there always watching everyone like a hawk.

The Monkees movie Head is one of the greatest rock movies ever made in my opinion. I enjoy it more than the movies from the Beatles, Frank Zappa, Kiss, the Who, etc. It's innovative and funny and never gets boring. I rented Frank Zappa's 200 Motels hoping for something like Head but it wasn't nearly as good. When it comes to putting visuals to music, the Monkees are the best. Anyone else care to weigh in on Head or other rock movies?

So Dan's got the other spectrum covered - so here's my input.. ok, I've been asked this from other people before too. I'm 22 and yes I think Peter is still a stud. I've always been attracted to older guys, my last boyfriend was 11 yrs older than me. In "real life" though - I wouldn't seriously date anyone that much older than me (unless it actually was Peter...) I think it's always been more acceptable for men to go after younger women than women to go after older men (Anna Nicole Smith anyone?) It's that age old double standard I guess.

A LOT goes into this...you could argue these girls are "looking for a father" that they never had, or maybe they are mature (and most guys are quite immature, you must admit), or maybe they are self-conscious and get an ego trip if someone who is on stage and has ALL eyes on him picks her out of a crowd. Then there are girls who will go for ANY musician or actor or artist regardless of his age. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, if she connects with the artists work and is intrigued by the energy that he omits or creates and she wishes to learn more about him, that's natural...and THEN there are groupies, or girls who don't know any other way to get attention from someone they admire, which is a WHOLE other story which I don't think should be discussed here.
I myself have always gone for older men because for the main reason, I have never been drunk or done drugs, and guys my age (20s) are pretty much only into that and sports and Matchbox 20, and I have nothing in common with them. I haven't liked "modern" or "hit" music since about Jr. High, the time I started dating, so I always got along better with older guys who weren't so concerned with what's "in."
I have a great dad, so I'm not looking for another one...I do tend to go for guys who LOOK like my dad though, because I think he's handsome--my mom made a good choice :-) I was always daddy's girl, and I feel safe with big masculine men...
I do firmly believe that men look better as they age. Their faces take on so much character. It struck me when I saw Natural, while they are what is considered "attractive" and "sexy," they looked boring to me. No character, a little naive, innexperienced...don't get me wrong I'm not saying they ARE these things, I'm just saying that's how they appear to me in comparison with the type of men I usually am attracted to, and I doubt any of them would be able to keep me interested in a conversation about anything other than music.
Many many people find it disgusting when a man dates a woman young enough to be his daughter. I disagree, I don't think it's more accepted...if it is, it is only in the disgusting high-five group of guy friends way. I've heard the comments in public...it's more often 'what is he doing with a girl half his age' as if he's taking advantage of her. Many times he is, but that's not for anyone to judge without knowing the whole story. Besides, everyone uses everyone: for love, for sex, for laughs, for companionship, everyone is looking for SOMETHING.
Many many men feel about women the same way I do about men: that age gives them a certain confidence, character and sexiness that only time can provide. Other men find younger women refreshing. And as long as she's intelligent, intriguing as well.
When it comes down to it, age has nothing to do with anything (to a point, now: I find it hard to believe Anna Nicole ACTUALLY found that man sexy. There's a line somewhere in between Sean Connery and George Burns) and I think people should mind their own business. People are attracted to who they are attracted to. Men have taken advantage of women their own age. Women have taken advantage of men their own age. Men have had successful relationships with women older, younger, what have you. What works works.
I'm 25 and I spent the last 4 years of my life with the most loving, wonderful man I've ever met. We had fun, we laughed, we cried. Knowing him has made me a better person, and knowing me made him feel happy and sexy. The same thing can happen in any relationship, age has nothing to do with anything.
Most men agree with me that Sean Connery is sexy. It's his attitude as well as his good looks. Many men find women as old attractive, too. However, usually they are women who dye their hair and have surgery to try to keep looking young. I find this sad, but it's the way it is. Men can look sexy with grey hair. Men can look sexy bald. Men can look sexy without any plastic surgery. I think it has a lot to do with society...sexy men are portrayed as powerful while sexy women are portrayed as young or at least not old looking. I think many times you notice a man's character before you notice his appeal...you are attracted to the person and then you realize "and hey, he has great eyes!" I think Jack Nicholson is sexy and attractive, but this is only because of his persona. If he wasn't famous and I saw him walking down the street, I wouldn't think he is bad looking, but I would have to get to know him before I would consider him "sexy." And he'd have to wear a suit and tie, not sweats :-) As I said, a LOT goes into this :-)

Sally Jesse Raphael anyone? Just kidding. In some places there is no double standard; it's taboo for the older man to think of going out or marrying someone who is extremely their junior, especially if the female is still in her teens.
But in the cases where it's okay for the older guy to seek out younger women goes back a few centuries where courtship was formal. The women had practically no say in the matter on deciding whether to marry an older man or any man. I may be off a bit, but that's the impression I get from reading old, old novels.

I believe both Micky and Mike have counted HEAD as one of the projects they value the most throughout the Monkees experience.
I like HEAD alot. I first saw it in 1987 on Cinemax, and I was totally baffled after watching it. At first, all I could enjoy was the opening and closing scenes, the "As We Go Along" scene and the live "Circle Sky" sequence. OH, can't forget Micky blowing the Coke machine up.
Anyway, the more and more I watched it, the more I picked up the subtle, underlying content and inside jokes that were such a big part of the movie. It wasn't until I really learned the ins and outs of Monkee business that I could understand HEAD. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to see how someone not familiar with the whole story behind the Monkees can understand HEAD. Does anyone else believe this to be true?
HEAD is really the Monkees (and Rafelson and Schneider) bursting the bubble on the whole project and in essence, killing the group along the way, as Peter is so often known to bring up.
For my money's worth, I can watch this movie more than HELP! or any other rock movie. Since I don't watch rock movies hardly ever, I'd still pick HEAD over HELP!. It's hard to beat A HARD DAY'S NIGHT simply because that movie captured a moment in time that will probably never be repeated. However, HEAD stands up well today and it's great to watch such an interesting piece of late '60s cinema. Thankfully it has also undergone a critical rehab and is now considered to be a cult classic.
Check out places like the American Movie Classics channel....they have broadcasted it before, most recently this past summer and winter, I believe.

Personally, I think an hour long variety show may have down well. As the initial teeny bobber audience was growing older also the whole feeling for that time was becoming more serious with the war protests and such. Look at how well other major recording stars and groups did with variety shows at that time. Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie for example. It may have helped the Monkees "blend" more with the pop culture and they could have been better accepted as more serious artists, especially to be seen on T.V. grouped with other groups of the times such as the Mama's and the Papa's and Jefferson Airplane. I think the critics might have settled down and started really listening to their talent instead of constantly knocking them down. Because if one really listens to their later albums such as PAC&J and Head, not to mention Headquarters, there is some real genious behind the music not to mention some extraordinary talent, and that you just can't fake.

I too really liked Head, although I had to watch it a few times to get past the Kiddie image I had of them to appreciate it. But I can't say it's my fav rock movie, Sorry fellow Monkee fans, but I cannot tell a lie. That Honor goes to The Who's Tommy. When I saw it at age 14 on the big screen I was hooked and I have taped it from T.V. and still periodically watch it. That was the Greatest Rock movie ever made IMHO

Nobody knows how tough it is to march in a parade, carring a heavy instrument, staying in step, and having all your music memorized and not pass out or collapse. I also playe a bass horn in Drum Corps called the Contra Bass which was another heavy instrument. People can call us geeks if they want but we know what stamina it takes to do it!

I have to agree that "Tommy" is also my favorite. Next in line is "Jesus Christ Superstar" I've had the cassette to that since the show first came out, although I like the Broadway version (musically) better than the movie version. A year or so ago, Ted Neeley reprised the role and they toured again and came here. I went 3 times!!! I do think he's a little bit "too into his role" though...LOL. He hugs everyone in the classic "Jesus" fashion. I almost started thinking I might be healed or something the third time!
But it was good. I have the movie Tommy and the soundtrack as well. Roger Daltry is something else. I must have a thing for short men! :-) Jan

According to Desmond Morris, the male human is genetically attracted to the female who most represents fertile, high estrogen mating possibilities. That leaves us older ones out. He also says that females are attracted to males that are the best providers, ie, money and age in favor of youth. He then added that after the provider thing is found for the young female, she may also turn to the younger, more sexual male for "fun", as long as her meal-ticket isn't threatened.
I did think that was rather humorous...:-)

Davy IS tan! And what you saw was refreshed considerably in Myrtle Beach. They got here the day before the show, and he spent a bit of time on the beach. He was as red as a pickled beet the night of the show.

My, how we all have our own opinions. I would personally rather hear David sing all day before Micky. I think Micky does fine on the songs that were picked out for him by the PTB back then, but he can't do the "pretty little ditties" like David. I think Peter is by far the most talented instrument wise, and though Mike's voice was good back then, the stuff I heard on Changes was ghastly....most of it, anyway. There are a few exceptions.
But of all the Monkees, Mike aged the worst. As far as I'm concerned, and every other person I know who's seen David up close, he's amazingly handsome...STILL.

This board has a major bug which causes really old posts to show up on the bottom (while having the old subject headers first). The paragraph stuff you should be responding to is on top, while the first subject header should be ignored. Part of the bug is that old subject headers are the only one seen when hitting reply. I have always, always been attracted to older guys. When, I was 15 years old I wanted to date 19 or 20 year olds and wouldn't settle for anything else. The older I get, the older the guys I'm attracted to get. In fact, the one time I dated a younger guy it ended up being a bad experience and I finally realized that was part of my main attarction to older men.
I am one of the many that find older actors like Sean Connery, Richard Geare and Peter Tork still very attractive (just to name a few) and on that note, I think I'll break them down...
Sean Connery is one of those completly to die for men. In his old age he's become distinguished (i think that's spelled wrong) and there is a sort of mystery to him, and come on ladies, that accent....ooo, I get goose bumps :)
Richard Geare looked older even when he was young, (Officer and a Gentlemen). He comes off as suave and sophisticated and he still has a nice body. He's one of those physically attractive older men.
and as for Peter Tork well...there's not enough room in this post to talk about all the reasons that I find him attractive....

Head is definitely my fav rock movie. The first time I saw it, I really didn't like it, but it did grow on me after a while. I love the line "I'm the dummy, I'm always the dummy". I also love the scene where they play As We Go Along. I think they should take that clip and make it into a music video. For some odd reason, the part where they get sucked into a vacuum and Mike picks up that giant cigarette, smells it, then kind of laughs and says "Not one of your standard brands" cracks me up. Same reason any guy likes younger girls...makes them feel sexy, makes them feel like a stud, or maybe they aren't looking for a relationship and feel safer going for someone younger, or maybe like I said earlier, they find them refreshing. Some guys think that older women=more cynicism. Or maybe they are intimidated by an older women and only have the confidence to go after what appears to be a naive young girl.
Bottom line it's probably looks. If I were a lesbian I'd rather be with a 25 year old than a 40 year old.
That said, it's not to say that all this shallowness can't turn into something real. Lots of relationships beging with nothing more than physical attraction.

Sue, the recording session log detailed in MUSIC BOX has Davy doing the lead vocal and playing tambourine, Micky playing drums and doing the harmony vocals with Davy, Peter on keys and Mike on acoustic guitar (as well as Chip Douglas on bass and a man playing cello). My guess is that Micky's harmonies are double-tracked with Davy's lead, and the background vocals you are hearing are probably a combo of both David and Micky.

I thought it was kind of even between "Head" and other rock movies as far as the songs go, especially comparing "Head" with "Hard Day's Night"; the music was good, just the visual stuff associated with the songs just doesn't seem colossal.
What was really catchy, after the first ten viewings, is all the possible underlying statements that Rafelson and Nicholson were making about The Monkees and Hollywood. With a lot of other rock band films, there's an obvious, banal straight plot, but with "Head"'s plot it's so atypical that there is a search for other meanings.
"Head" is not the kind of film one would want to use to "convert" people to Monkeedom. It's more like a supplement after the person has gotten a chance to know some Monkee history, and watched a bit of the tv episodes.

I also truly enjoy Head. I have had the video for a few years and had never sat and watched the entire thing until last year. Since then I have seen it many, many times and can truly enjoy it. It IS one that takes a few viewings to understand it. My fave!

I've often thought about this, too, and wondered if the Monkees' variety show would have been like the Smothers Brothers show, or more like Laugh-In, both of which were on in the same era as the original Monkees show. I think it would have been a blend of the two--zany, silly comic stuff, mixed with music. I liked the Smothers Brothers show, not for them, but because they had EVERYONE on that was popular in the '60s and they let those musical talents do their own thing, rather than script something stupid for them to do. That was the "Ed Sullivan" part of their show.

I ALWAYS use "HEAD" to convert people to Monkeedom! It's so Out There & strange that I can get all sorts of hipsters, hippies, pot-smokers, and film-buffs hooked by showing The Monkees' "alternative" side!
As far as comparing it to other rock movies, I think it's simply the best. I know this is sacrilage, but I found "Hard Day's Night" dull. The music's great, of course, but I found it slow going & thought The Beatles, as characters, were kindof jerks. Of course, I'm all alone on that opinion (perhaps I was tired when I watched it in film class).
Regarding other rock movies: My opinion varies depending on my feelings toward the artist (ex: "Tommy" does nothing for me, "Purple Rain" does), but none seem to give as much to chew on as "HEAD" & offers as many rewards on repeat viewings.
One more thought: alot of people on this board refer to "HEAD" as "funny" and, I just want to go on record as saying I don't think it is. What I respond to is it's darkness & even it's sadness (as well as what The L.A. Times referred to as its "fierce visual energy").

"Hits Just..." is not my favorite (very acoustic/two-man-bandish) BUT, if you like it & want to experiment further, I recommend "Complete" (his first 3 albums on 2 CD's - "Magnetic South" is the best of the three & i feel it's his best solo material: psychadelic county-rock) for the more country side of Nez & "Infinite Rider On The Big Dogma" (lots of "Elephant Parts" material) for the poppier side.

In fact, I just used Liquid Paper yesterday to correct a mistake I made when writing up the PTA minutes from the May meeting (so I'm a little behind). I much prefer the little pens that correct writing errors. The brushes leave a big streak that's hard to write over.

Ok, so this is...a little silly. But I don't care! I'm all for silly right now!
At the Boston concert I attended (Yey MonkeeStock!) I held proudly too signs stating my love for Peter Tork, and my approval of MonkeeStock. In the corner of each sign I held I had scribbled the words "BAND GEEKS UNITE!" in honor of the band geeks on this dicussion board (myself included) and the band geeks on that stage. Peter (the king of the band geeks and my idol...I play french horn too!) The backing band (yey horns and saxes) and Micky and Davy.
My campaign is to show these band geeks that we care by stating at our next concerts "BAND GEEKS UNITE!" (I plan on having one huge sign saying that at Gilford.) I think it's a great way to show the backing band that you care and that you support them all the way in their "band geekiness".
I think these pple are truly, truly talented muscians, and I'm sure in high school they were the constant subject for public mockary...but look at them now! Backing for *THE* Monkees. It's would be like a dream come true for me!
So I choose to support them this fri and I hope that you guys will too.

The Westbury show was great! It was a real trip back in time, but better. Mickey's voice is even better than it was in the 60's. Peter was his adorable self. People were taking pictures despite the rules. You just couldn't help yourself. The temptation to capsulize a bit of one's life was too great. Westbury personnel didn't get too riled. All in all, it was a great night.

I hated it. The cheap production values, the lack of actual Monkee music during romp scenes, Mike potrayed as a loveable lug, the ridiculous happy ending, etc.
It should have had much more music (why no "Long Title" during the HEAD scene? Why not a different song over the closing credits than one used earlier in the film?) & ended with the "We've evolved into a real-live band" performance of "Listen to the Band" from "33 1/3"?
The only good thing to come out of it for me personally was that I had never really enjoyed "All of Your Toys" until it wormed it's way inside my head from repeat viewings of the biopic.

We were row A right in the center. Unfortunately though, row A was not the first row. There were 4 rows in front of us, but we had a better view that way.
My sis and my best friend just got back from the North Platte show yesterday. They said it was a short set for both Natural and the Monkees. It was outdoors and it was terribly windy and cold so I guess I'm not as sad that I couldn't go :)

The longest serving sideman, though is drummer Sandy Gennaro, who first played on the '87 tour.
And Mark Clarke (who co-wrote "Every Step Of The Way") is the bass player in Davy's solo band.

Greetings <written last night about 11pm> We just got home from the concert at the Calvin. Ok, I will admit that the 5th row seats I was changed to *were* great. <If you want a song list you will have to find someone else, I couldn't keep track>
Natural started the evening, performing 5 songs before the a cappella set then they did the dance thing. I must admit that I am really starting to like them altho Patrick really needs a haircut<i know, its just that i cant get out of stylist mode>. I just wish that they weren't all so young<yes I have the same problem with my cousins' band> Then came intermission, which I didn't realize was going to be so long, about 30min. SO mom and I didn't go and get any souvenirs. She was more disappointed since this was also her first concert. Finally it was time for the boys to appear. They were faboo! Mom kept snapping pics so I don't know how many will come out. They were having a blast, even making an inside joke about NoHo. In my opinion Davy seemed to have more of the stage than he did at Mohegan, not that that is a bad thing. It was really nice seeing "I Wanna Be Free" preformed altho I have always preferred the slower version. He also did "Little Bit Me..." which I don't remember from before. Micky had fun with the timpani, and did an ok job with "Going Down" I was disappointed that he skipped some of the verses, but I was able to keep up with him. He did his blues tune and cracked a few jokes about hat hair, which I would have gladly fixed for him. Peter did Bach and "Auntie Grizelda" and also sang lead on the 3<i think> songs from *Head*. They ended the evening with "Daydream Believer" with out the short bit. They also brought out Natural and 2 of Davys' daughters and 1 of Mickys'. They came out for a 3<again I think, I guess I am not doing that well am I?>song encore. "I'm a Believer" I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday" Now for the looks. Peter looked at me at least 3 times, and I got Davys' attention during "Girl". Micky spent most of his time on the other side of the stage. I am now convinced that I will soon be a convert to the way of the Tork. All in all, the concert was rocking, I cant wait untill I see them again.

here I am as usual pondering things I probably have no buisness pondering and I can't help but wonder who was best served in the Monkees/Mike liason? would Mike's musical career reach the proportions it has without his Monkee background or would he have been just another nameless, faceless struggling muscian trying to make it big until hunger and eviction threats forced him to drop out of the music scene altogether? Or did his special talents and convictions to be viewed as a serious artist give the group more credentials and respectability? Would the Monkees continue to be as popular as they are today? Thoughts anyone?

I feel I have to mention this, since I was there...Peter ate a rose. Someone gave a rose to Davy, Davy handed it to Peter saying, "This is your favorite flower!" And Peter proceeded to take a big bite, then spit the petals out all over the stage. And they say Micky needs prozac!!! :)
Also, I met Kestra, and she's super-nice! She gave me a blue glow stick to keep as a souvenir, which worked out really well, because my glow bracelet started leaking and I couldn't keep it.
Anyway, the stage was insanely close to the front row (where I was...hyperventilating) because they moved the show from a larger venue, for the purpose of having it indoors, rather than out.
Overall, the performance was fabulous! Out of all 5 Monkees concerts I've been to, this was no doubt the most incredible.

i thought it was pretty good, but i'm so desperate for new monkees stuff i'd love them singing the phone book. if you didn't go to one of the concerts, i doubt you'd appreciate it as much. some of the jokes would be lost (especially peter's bach jacket) it's deffinitely a souvenir, not an album in my opinion. i really wish they would release the new recordings they supposedly did before the tours started. but i wouldn't give mine up.

did you ever go to the old board? the new messages were posted a the bottom, so you had to wait for EVERYTHING to load. then, there was some glitch that caused the new messages to be posted in the middle and tons of people left becase they couldn't find the new stuff. this may be slow and/or confusing, but it's deffinitely a step up.

Mike is strongly, STRONGLY attached to Victoria Kennedy. They've been dating since the early 90's I believ, he may even be married to her, not sure. I believe Peter has a blonde girlfriend. Last I heard Davy was dating someone, not sure who. But I have no idea about Micky, I didn't think he was seeing anyone...

Let's see, well you know, everyone got into arguements and either got offended or fed up so a lot of the orginal posters left. DavyHitMeFirst, Monkeescott, Mark T., John, Cory, Suzannetigger and I think Ashley, ... there were a few others I can't recall. Tyme was going to leave but I don't think she did. Some of them are posting on Monkees.com and on Andrea's site, I think it was. I hope this helped. The board has really gone downhill... I wish everyone hadn't been so touchy, then maybe the board would still rock... oh well. I would have replied sooner but for some reason my computer didn't show all the posts that have been made since the 15th, I thought no one had posted at all. Strange.

I agree with Just-ice. Why in the world would they want to do that? HQ was about them, and only them. Besides, I think it was Peter who didn't really like Elvis at all. He didn't get into that sort of Chuck Berry, Elvis Rock-n-roll, what moved him was the R-n-B singers like Jackie Wilson. So he would not have been content doing that anyway. They would never have done that, who wants to do covers when you can move people with your own words and melodies?

So many questions, so little time... Mike Nesmith was a solid, talented songwriter before the Monkees -- but, I feel that the exposure his songs (and abilities) received through the Monkees really made people take notice (and undoubtedly added to the credibility of the group). I'm sure that his years with The Monkees were necessary in order to achieve any major solo opportunities. It's a toss-up, but I feel that without his Monkees experience, Michael Blessing may have just drifted along with the Tumbling Tumbleweeds. (I'm a major Nez fan, but "That's Showbusiness!")
