From: "Vikki Burnham" Subject: Monkees in Las Vegas Happy Happy Joy Joy !! Monkees in Las Vegas July 4, 1997 The concert in Vegas was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!!! Not only did they joke around (Tarzan joke included), they played JUSTUS! Play list follows: Last Train to Clarksville That Was Then, This Is Now A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You The Girl I Knew Somewhere For Pete's Sake Look Out, Here Comes Tomorrow Regional Girl I Wanna Be Free Mary, Mary I'll Be Back Up On My Feet It's Nice to Be With You Long Title Lucille Since I Fell Oh, What a Night Circle Sky (old version) Every Step of the Way Randy Scouse Git Girl Words I Believe You (First time ever performed live and Peter did an impressionistic dance with it. The audience thought he was whacked!) Valerie (in Elvis Costume) Oh, My My I'm a Believer Shades of Gray Listen to the Band (Porpoise Song in the middle, then back to LTTB) Heart and Soul Steppin' Stone Daydream Believer Pleasant Valley Sunday This was my first concert, but veterans tell me it was just about the BEST they'd ever seen. I feel so lucky!! I also got to watch the sound check. Incredible! By the way - the Why Mike isn't here lines were pretty funny and revealing. The bottom line was the standard "screenplay" and Micky reciting "he doesn't like touring." At which point Peter shot back, "He's lousy at it anyway." This ought to clear up the debate a few days ago about Peter's comments in England. I saw Davy running around during the sound check in shorts, no shirt. The man looks just fine, thank you! Barely decernible love handles. He has a DEEP tan and looks great from where I was sitting (about a foot away, at one point!). There was a 1st generation woman sitting a couple rows behind me, who kept screaming after every number "Sing Daydream Beliver!!!! After the umpteenth time it was getting REALLY annoying. Finally, during a set break, as Micky was walking offstage, she yelled it again, but this time he called back, "Don't worry, Honey. It's coming!" The audience broke up laughing. It was great! Costumes: Davy was in his Personal Trainer" outfit (white jeans/white t-shirt). Peter was wearing white jeans and a multi-colored top. They joked back and forth about clothing choices: Davy (to Peter): Well, I see you couldn't make up your mind on what to wear." Peter (to Davy): Yes, but I see you didn't have the same problem! and Micky wore (drum roll please, Sandy) Black jeans, a black t-shirt with some kind of orange looking design (not the one from Billboard Live) AND an unbuttoned orange (or salmon) long sleeved shirt! Really. The man best known as a Monkee is making preparations for his fifth Council on Ideas. It's an idea Nesmith instigated in 1992 to bring together great thinkers from a wide range of professions to discuss pressing issues of the day. Past council members have included Nobel Prize-winning physicist Amo Penzias, architect Frank Gehry and Pulitzer Prixe-winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Coming from these gatherings have been ideas on topics ranging from improving education to the impact of government lagging behind the technology boom. "This is literally, a gathering of the elders," says Nesmith. This year's nominees include the former president of a European country, best-selling authors, CEOs of major corporations and college presidents. Joe Blenkle From ???@??? All shirts are black this year. A redesigned "face" shirt - Two new "logo" shirts, one with a yellow logo and a spiral design behind it. One with a red logo with a sort of starburst design behind it. The red one will also be available in long sleeve. All four shirts have the same design on the back, the tour cities. A black baseball shirt with an embroidered logo on the breast. A new hat, black and grey. A new keyring, similar to the UK version, red logo on yellow vinyl. A black tote bag, in the shape of a guitar, with a red logo screened on it. The live CD will again be offered. A new tour program is supposed to be in the works, although would be several weeks away from being ready. Last year's program will be offered at the next few shows until supplies are gone. I'm pushing for a reprint of the black and white photo book, but not sure about it yet. New shirts, baseball shirts, and hats will be available starting in Kingsport, the tote bag is a couple of weeks away from being completed. New keyrings will probably be available in Louisville or Cleveland Everything will again be available through mail order, as supplies last. For those who don't see the new merchandise at their local shows or for those stuck in areas bypassed by the tour this year, Monkees Mailbag's e-mail address is MCPrinting@aol.com. maggie monkeebiz@prodigy.com From ???@??? Maggie McManus: Arizona State Fair is in Phoenix, AZ. I called & they said (of course) that they don't have confirmation on ANY shows yet for the fair and don't expect ANY tickets to go on sale for another couple weeks, but the phone number for buying tix when the time comes is 602-258-6711, or so they tell me. Brad Waddell: The Arizona State fair books concerts each night of the fair, and they are free with fair admission, which is usually around $6-8. Concerts are held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the fairgrounds, a 14000+ seat facility. The large hockey rink shaped middle is open for concerts, and all seating is general admission. Most concerts start at 8pm and run no more than 2 hours. Believe me, I have seen my share of concerts there! From ???@???
