I will be spending the next few days researching hotel and area
information.  I will also be working with the band's sponsor, GB
Records, on finding out about ground transportation between Denton &
Austin for those of you who are thinking about hitting both of those
shows (it's about a 3 hour drive!).  Right now there are no plans for a
group bus or carpooling between Shoopies.  I will get this information
out to you as soon as I can... please don't email me for more details at
this point... I just don't have them!

I can tell you that if you are coming to the Denton show and are flying,
you will want to fly into the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport.  If you are
going to the Austin show, you want to fly into Austin.  I have been
checking airfares & there seem to be some decent rates out there...
around $270-320 from the East & West coasts!

Please spread the word about the weekend tour to anyone you know that
might be interested!  I hope to see many of you on the road in April!
I'll be dropping another line to the list sometime this weekend with
more information.

Take care,
Bonnie

From a UK newspaper:

The young generation apes Monkees
Canadian casting call for movie draws scores of Daydream Believers
STEPHANIE NOLEN
The Globe and Mail
Wednesday, March 1, 2000
Toronto -- There were boys in phat pants who wandered into line as a lark, and scruffy, silent, street people with their dogs. Slick-haired Latino lounge singers waited with pink-cheeked teenage girls and black men with dreadlocks.
They were all at an open casting call in Toronto yesterday for a movie about the 1960s pop sensation the Monkees, and apparently everybody thinks hey, hey, they're the Monkees.
"I came to see if there's anything I can do here," Christopher Bernard said. "I vaguely remember the Monkees."
A former Zeller's employee who's now unemployed, Mr. Bernard's only acting experience was in high school. He's 25 -- and, in rather marked contrast to the original Monkees, black. But no matter -- there were plenty of equally improbable wannabe Monkees in line outside the CITY-TV building on Toronto's bustling Queen Street West.
All that aspiration for fame produced a weird day for casting director Jon Comerford.
He heard 150 people read the same five lines into a video camera -- some die-hard Monkee fans in their funkiest polyester slacks, some burly 50-year-old men, a couple of 15-year-old girls. He was nice to all of them.
"You can't break people's hearts," he said a little wearily when the casting call wrapped up after 6 p.m.
And among all the non-actors, the curious, and the confused who wander into the casting call, he just might discover The Next Big Thing.
"I spend my whole life trying to find that one person," said Mr. Comerford, who has been casting productions for 15 years, including blockbuster musicals such as Tommy.
Daydream Believers: The Story of the Monkees is a co-production of the American cable music channel VH1 and Moses Znaimer's MuchMoreMusic, a made-for-TV movie directed by Neil Fearnley, whose previous outings include Escape from Mars. Filming begins in Toronto this month.
The original Monkees answered a 1965 casting call just like this one and were chosen from 500 hopefuls. "They found them exactly this way," Mr. Comerford said.
The Monkees were infamous, at least at first, as a fake Fab Four cobbled together by corporate interests to ape the Beatles. Imposters or not, guitarist Michael Nesmith, drummer Micky Dolenz, singer Davy Jones and bassist Peter Tork made a string of multiplatinum albums, had a weekly television series, and graced all manner of merchandise.
The Monkees never did have a great deal of musical ability, though they did give the world pop gems like I'm a Believer and Last Train to Clarksville. Actors in Daydream Believers won't need it either -- they will lip sync the songs.
Nonetheless, "It's an extraordinarily difficult thing to cast," Mr. Comerford said. "It's not limited to the acting ability, they have to look like the original Monkees."
He needed a Davy Jones who was short enough, a Peter Tork with long enough hair -- "because extensions are so tricky."
Some of the people in line were doing their best to cultivate that shaggy sixties look. Rob Kay, 41, even had vintage Beatle boots. He got the part at his last casting-call audition; that one was for the Leon's furniture-store chain's "Ho! Ho! Hold the Payments!" commercial.
He thought he had a good shot at the Monkee movie though, because he plays in a British-invasion band called the Toggles. He brought his musician pal Jim Clark, 39, to the audition.
"The Monkees were why I started playing in the first place," Mr. Clark said.
Actors picked for the film stand to earn about $25,000 -- and most likely, plenty more movie auditions. A young Toronto woman named Liane Balaban walked into a similar casting call a few years ago. She'd never acted before, but won the lead role in Allan Moyle's New Waterford Girl, an award-winning Canadian film about an independent young woman's ambition to leave her rough-hewn Cape Breton hometown. Ms. Balaban is now the It Girl of the moment in the indie film world, and Mr. Comerford might just find her successor here.
Lucille Henry was perhaps the most unlikely person in the line, a heavy-set black woman of 54, and there was no obvious role for her in a movie about four white teen idols. But she has had parts as an extra in films such as Dangerous Evidence and thought this casting call was worth checking out.
"There are girl monkeys and boy monkeys, right?" she said, apparently under the impression that the spelling of the band's name was just a way to make a nature flick look hip.
Dave Jacobs took time off from his job in a steel plant in Hamilton. Mr. Jacobs, 42, has never acted, but he has been mistaken for the diminutive Mr. Jones his whole life, which he reckoned gave him a pretty good shot. He won a contest in Las Vegas once with his impression of Mr. Jones.
His audition was okay. Mr. Comerford gently explained that they needed a Davy Jones who was 19, but that there was a scene where the lad goes back to England to talk to his father, and that Mr. Jacobs might make a terrific Dad, given the resemblance, which everyone agreed was almost spooky.
Mr. Jacobs duly read the scene a few times in his best English accent, but didn't quite put the pieces together -- asked if he would be happy to play the elder Mr. Jones, he said, "The father? No, I want to be Davy."
But Mr. Jones is supposed to be 19 and Mr. Jacobs does look all of his 42 years.

It was SO festive, a great hour-long interview!!! In the interview he said he will be on the talk show The View Wednesday next week. I confirmed this at tvguide.com. The View is aired on ABC. Check local listings for air time! Davy also confirmed that he is indeed building a small Davy/Monkees museum in Pennsylvania, and he confirmed that "Just For the Record" volume 5 will soon be out on CD! Davy also mentioned that at his personal appearance in NYC on March 16, he will be playing some of his acoustic solo material. He has some amazing songs, so try to make it! Go to http://www.geocities.com/~monkeespad/news.html or http://www.davyjones.net for more info on this "speaking engagement." Davy will also be appearing at the Summit Mall in Waterford, MI, on Saturday, March 11 from 2-4pm (to apparently sell and autograph copies of his new book, Daydream Believin'!!). The 25-year-old actor was at the front of the line of auditioneers outside CITY-TV yesterday when we talked to him. The conversation went like this: "Um, you know the Monkees were real people?" "Well, I'm a real person." "Uh, but they were four white guys." "Well, I know the director probably has some preconceived notions of what he's looking for. But I hope to show my talents, and maybe if I don't get the role of Davy, they'll keep me in mind for something else." The rub is that most of the 50 or so prospective actors who lined up for the roles of Jones, Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz in Daydream Believers: The Story Of The Monkees, were of an age to believe you if you told them one of the Monkees was black. Asked which role he wanted, Chris Mahon, 19, said, "Whatever ... Whatever they want me for." What did he know about the Pre-fab Four? "Not much. I've seen their video and heard the song before. I forget the name." Could he name a Monkee? "Um ... Davy?" It was that way throughout the "environment" on Queen St. W. on audition day (CITY/CHUM are co-producers along with VH-1 in the U.S. and Pebblehut, a Canadian producer). Most over age 35 were jazzed. Everyone under was oblivious. Pulse 24 producer B.J. Del Conte mentioned the audition to a 28-year-old. "I said they're auditioning for a movie about The Monkees, and she said, 'Who?' I said, 'The Monkees. They were big. They toured and Jimi Hendrix opened for them.' And she said, 'Jimi Hendrix? Isn't he some dead guy?' " CITY spokesperson Bev Nenson swears one caller went on about whether they'd provide monkey costumes for the audition. "It was all, 'Tell me what kind of monkeys these are.' " Said casting director John Comerford: "When I did the auditions for Tommy, we got over 2,000 people. I can't tell you why this didn't get the same response. They got about 100 each in L.A. and New York (where earlier auditions were held). What I think is that, ultimately, people our age want to see it. My brother-in-law in Markham wants to see it. "If we covered a 20-year span in the life of the Monkees, we'd get thousands of people our age trying out to be the older Monkees. But for younger people, it's a foreign language." In fact, the movie covers the lives of Micky, Peter, Mike and Davy through a two-year span from the original auditions for the '60s TV series, "right up until the time they started filming Head (The madcap Monkees film co-created by Jack Nicholson and Bob Rafelson)." There apparently are Mack Sennett-ish scenes replicating the series, and offstage stuff mirroring the discord pitting the members who wanted The Monkees to be a real band (Tork and Nesmith) against the ones who had no such aspirations (Jones and Dolenz). "Mike is the one who shows the most integrity in the script," Comerford says. In fact, some of the audition hopefuls were a little old for the parts, but were bigger Monkees fans for it. One Davy wannabe was Rob Kay, 41, who fronts a Brit-Invasion band called The Toggles. Another was Jim Clark, drummer for the surf-abilly band The SinTones who are playing a Canadian Music Week showcase at the El Mocambo this week. "I was a total fan," says Clark, 37. "I started playing drums because of Micky -- even though he didn't actually play them." Tuesday, February 29, 2000 Eh, eh, you're The Monkees By CLAIRE BICKLEY -- Toronto Sun TORONTO - No guts, no glory, guys. Reminder: The open audition for Daydream Believers: The Story Of The Monkees runs from noon to 6 today at the ChumCity Building, 299 Queen St. W. Tip: "The four leads will be cast for their acting ability and resemblance to the original band members, rather than musical ability." Personally, I see Sun TV critic Bill Brioux in the role of drummer Mickey Dolenz but he refuses to go. The movie starts shooting here mid-March for broadcast on MuchMoreMusic and VH1 next season. Monday, February 17, 1997 Monkees reunion is humourless trash By DAVID VEITCH -- Calgary Sun OK, here's the problem: Hey, hey, you're The Monkees and you've just released Justus, your first record to feature all four members (Davy! Micky! Peter! Mike!) since the soundtrack to the 1968 feature film, Head. Alas, rock radio mocks you, MTV and Top-40 radio ignores you and goldie-radio only plays your old hits. What's a reunited Pre-fab Four to do? The answer: Hey, Hey, It's The Monkees, an hour-long special airing tonight at 7 p.m. on HC and 9 p.m. on I. It attempts to reprise the camaraderie and madcap antics of The Monkees TV series, all the while exposing new songs to the masses. Just like the old Monkees TV program used to do. Except the old show was occasionally funny. Hey, Hey, It's The Monkees only serves to remind us that the Last Train to Clarksville pulled out of the station a long time ago. The Monkees are preparing for a concert at a prestigious country club. That's the plot in its entirety. And it's upon this flimsy premise that writer-director Michael Nesmith -- who returns to the Monkee fold after a 27-year estrangement -- hangs lip-synced performances of Justus songs and a collection of largely humorless gags. http://www.canoe.ca/JamMusicArtistsM/monkees.html The Monkees Alert list is moderated, meaning you cannot post directly to the list yourself. Hi there Buckaroos and Buckarettes!

There are a lot of things going on here at Videoranch so we thought it was time to drop you a line and tell you about them.

We have a new place at Videoranch called the Formosa Diner Theater. You can go there to watch funny little streaming movies. We're going to be adding new movies to the Diner menu all the time so be sure to check in often. http://www.videoranch.com/html/formosadiner.html. (My personal favorite is "Irish Language Lab").

We also have a new 3D Videoranch open for you to visit. Just download the browser from Videoranch. It's quick and easy to install, it's free, it's the future, and it's a lot of fun. While you're in the 3D ranch you can walk (or fly) around the beautiful grounds, chat with others, listen to MP3s and watch streaming movies. I'm in there a lot during the day (U.S. time) and would be happy to show you around. http://www.videoranch.com/html/vr3dbrowser.html

And, as you know, the Videoranch Store is the place to go for the largest selection of Michael Nesmith's (or Nez, as we call him) works.

That's all for now. Hope to see you at Videoranch 3D!

Sincerely yours,

VH1 Believes in Monkees Movie
By Paula Bernstein

NEW YORK (Variety) - Ramping up its commitment to original TV movies, VH1 will begin production in Toronto Monday on ''Daydream Believers: The Monkees' Story,'' about the four musicians/actors who starred in the 1960s TV show.

The film will rely heavily on music, as the film's producers have acquired the rights to the entire Monkees catalog. Rhino Records will likely release the film's soundtrack.

Its cast of newcomers includes George Stanchev as Davy Jones; Jeff Geddis as Mike Nesmith; L.B. Fisher as Peter Tork; and Aaron Lohr as Mickey Dolenz.

Wallace Langham (''Veronica's Closet'') will play impresario Don Kirschner. Producers hope to cast the roles of Bob Rafaelson and Jack Nicholson, who were involved in the creation of the band. VH1 is aiming for a premiere in mid to late June.

VH1 is also beginning production Monday of ``Out of Sync,''......

See them at: http://www.canoe.ca/JamMovies/mar18_monkees.html Here is the article: Saturday, March 18, 2000 Hey hey, they're the Monkees By DEREK TSE Toronto Sun Then you saw their faces. Now are you a believer? The producers of the new Monkees biopic, Daydream Believers: The Monkees' Story, are hoping so. Three of the four actors playing the zany '60s quartet were introduced yesterday at a downtown Toronto news conference. Each bears a striking resemblance to his real-McCoy counterpart. George Stanchev, who plays lead singer Davy Jones, grew up here in Toronto. Jeff Geddis, portraying guitarist Mike Nesmith, was born in Thunder Bay, raised in Pickering and currently lives in Toronto. New York resident L.B. Fisher plays bassist Peter Tork. The actor who will play so-called drummer Mickey Dolenz is still in negotiations, but should report to work when shooting begins here on Monday. Stanchev, 19, said he donned a wig, special jewelry and shirts "to get into the character as much as I could" for the audition. He said he had no problem adopting Jones' British accent because while he attended high school in Europe, many of his friends were from England. Geddis, 24, a graduate of York University, said he "was always a Beatles fan more (than a Monkees fan). I had a Monkees tape, I used to listen to that from time to time. I'm definitely a fan of that musical era." Like Stanchev, the tall, lanky Geddis auditioned in full Monkees regalia, in his case a tuque and "much tighter clothes than I normally wear." He said he had a pretty good feeling about his tryout, even before he went before the casting director. "When I was sitting in the waiting room for my audition, this kid looked over at me and said, 'Wow, you really look like that guy.' That was pretty cool. When you find out you look like someone, immediately you're like, 'Oh good, now all I have to do is act the part.' It's nice to look exactly like what they're looking for." Both Toronto-linked actors painstakingly researched their respective roles. "I immediately went out and bought videos and CDs and everything," said the diminutive Stanchev, who is four inches taller than the 5-foot-3 Jones. "One of my scenes actually involved singing the chorus to Daydream Believer, which I didn't know. So I kept listening to the CDs over and over and watched the tapes hundreds of times." Geddis also wore out his VCR, even viewing over and over Nesmith's own screen test for the original Monkees show. Stanchev auditioned in L.A., where he lives when he's not in Toronto or Europe. Geddis tried out in Toronto. Neill Fearnley, the film's director, said that while two of the respondents to last week's open casting call in Toronto made the short list, he went with people "we felt had a better look and were strong actors." Fearnley said that because of the film's hectic 20-day shooting schedule around Toronto, professionals were preferable "because there's no time for us to train somebody." Musical talent was another consideration during casting. Stanchev has just finished cutting a pop album, Are You Ready, in Europe. Geddis is probably more like most of the real Monkees as far as musical abilities go. "I've never been very musically gifted, if you will," Geddis said. "But I have rhythm, I can dance, I can keep a beat!" Monkees purists need not fear. The cast has been training for the past week not only to play their instruments, but also to mimic the originals' playing styles. The spiky-haired Fisher, who will don a Peter Tork-like blonde wig for the film, seemed to speak for his fellow spitting-image Monkees. "We're playing rock stars for five weeks. Who wouldn't wanna do it?" +++++++++++++++++++++ From: Tiffany Spiecker HEY, HEY, BE A MONKEE BYLINE: JIM SLOTEK EDITION: Final SECTION: Entertainment 1 Mar 2000, pp. 55 If you're old enough to remember the Monkees, you might not think much of Christopher Bernard's chances for the role of Davy Jones in the forthcoming Monkees TV movie -- what with Bernard being African-Canadian. "I started playing drums because of Micky -- even though he didn't actually play them." +++++++++++++++ From: Ruthkw@aol.com Stanley Ralph Ross LOS ANGELES (AP) - Stanley Ralph Ross, an actor-producer who also wrote more than 250 television show episodes, died Thursday of cancer, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday. VH1 Begins Production of Exclusive Original Movies 'The Monkees: Daydream Believers' and 'Out Of Sync'
'The Monkees: Daydream Believers' Brings True Story Of '60s TV Teen Pop Idols To The Screen; Fictional Rock & Roll Comedy 'Out Of Sync' Stars Gail O'Grady, Kari Wuhrer and Peter Outerbridge

NEW YORK, March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- VH1 has begun production on two exclusive original made-for-TV movies, ``Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story'' and ``Out of Sync,'' it was announced today by Jeff Gaspin, Executive Vice President, Programming and Production, VH1. Both films are being shot on location in Toronto and will premiere on VH1 in June 2000.

``With these two new productions now in front of the cameras, VH1 revisits the real story behind America's original boy band -- The Monkees -- and also puts a fresh comic spin on today's image-obsessed music business in ''Out of Sync,`` said Gaspin.

``Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story'' tells the dramatic true story of the four young actors/musicians cast in the phenomenally popular '60 TV series, and the problems that eventually arise when they start believing they're the real thing. George Stanchev plays Davy Jones, Jeff Geddis portrays Mike Nesmith, L.B. Fisher (``Felicity'') is Peter Tork, and Aaron Lohr plays Mickey Dolenz. Ron McGee wrote the screenplay which is directed by Neill Fearnley. Howard Braunstein and Harold Bronson are Executive Producers. ``Daydream Believers: The Monkees Story'' is produced by Peeblehut Production in association with Rhino Films.

``Out of Sync'' is an original contemporary comedy about a down-and-out record producer who discovers a housewife with an extraordinary voice, but uses her recorded vocals to boost the career of an untalented diva-wannabe. Gail O'Grady (three-time Emmy Award nominee for ``NYPD Blue,'' ``Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo''), Kari Wuhrer (``Sliders,'' ``Anaconda,'' ``Beverly Hills 90210'') and Peter Outerbridge (``Mission to Mars,'' ``Cool Runnings'') star. Directed by Graeme Campbell, ``Out of Sync'' is produced by Hearst Entertainment. Anne Carlucci and Marian Brayton are Executive Producers.

Lauren Zalaznick is VH1 Senior Vice President of Original Programming and Development; Michael Larkin is VH1's Vice President of Motion Pictures for Television.

Hi there~! I found this link to Aron Lohr. He's the actor that will be playing Micky in the VH1 movie. Like Micky, Aron was a child actor, appearing in Denice Benson' 1980's video, "Let's hear it for the Boys." He played the role of Portman in the "Mighty Ducks" movies, and more recently appeared in a Gap commercial. Check him out here:

Davy Jones Monkees With Museum
Tuesday, March 21, 2000

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame could be in for some competition this fall when ex-Monkee Davy Jones opens his dream museum in Beaverton, PA.

Jones, who topped the charts in the 1960s with hits such as Daydream Believer, tells TV Guide Online that he'll open his Davy Jones Rock and Roll Museum this September in a barn-like former Lutheran church in the region he now calls home. Featured bands, he says, will include chart-toppers like the Monkees and KC and the Sunshine Band that haven't made the cut into the original Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"I'm not going to wait to be inducted into that," says Jones, whose own museum will be packed with Monkees mementos plus memorabilia from such music biz pals as Pete Townshend and Neil Young. "I can't believe the Monkees are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That is a joke. We were the forerunners from the '60s."

Jones hopes his museum will also play host to his many esoteric interests, including a film school, a lecture series on horseriding (he's an ex-jockey), table tennis, a cancer research fund and a boxing ring where he'll manage women boxers.

Meanwhile, the indefatigable singer says he's busy thinking up new tour ideas. He says he'd like to tour with singer Jill Sobule (I Kissed a Girl) in gay bath houses. He'd also like to do a show with Reba McIntire at the Grand Old Opry, or possibly with Sheena Easton, who's currently starring with David Cassidy in Las Vegas.

"You've got David Cassidy and Sheena Easton dying there because he has no soul, no rhythm," he says of the ex-Partridge Family star. "He's just a name. He couldn't sell a ticket. He couldn't organize a piss-off in a brewery right now. He was lucky to get F/X and he was great in Blood Brothers, I'm told. But now here comes Davy Jones, here comes the emotion, the drama, the real. Underneath the tinsel and fabric is real tinsel and fabric. I have no competition with any of the little teen idols or anybody else." - Rich Brown

LAST TRAIN TO SANITY
By C. Bottomley

A Monkee is opening his own rock 'n' roll museum, while VH1 seems to have found some Monkees of their own. Davy Jones is opening his Davy Jones Rock and Roll Museum in Beaverton, PA in September. And casting is complete on the Monkees TV movie Daydream Believer, a look at the lives of the prefab foursome who had hits with songs like "Last Train to Clarksville" and "Stepping Stone."

TV Guide revealed that Jones is setting up the museum in a former Lutheran church near his home. The cute one explained that he saw his museum of Monkees memorabilia as an alternative to Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which has yet to pay his band the respect they deserve. "I'm not going to wait to be inducted into that," Jones said. "I can't believe the Monkees are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That is a joke. We were the forerunners from the '60s." He said his museum would also honor forerunners like KC and the Sunshine Band.

But the Rock and Roll Museum isn't all about just the Monkees - or rock and roll for that matter. Jones is creating other exhibits that would allow him to indulge his passion for film, table tennis, cancer research, and women's boxing. The former jockey will also lecture on horse riding. Well, it beats hearing about Lightnin' Slim's guitar picks.

Jones also took time to deliver an inexplicable verbal beat-down to Partridge Family member David Cassidy, who is currently performing with Sheena Easton in Las Vegas. Jones observed that Cassidy's star was in descent. "You've got David Cassidy and Sheena Easton dying there because he has no soul, no rhythm," Jones told the magazine. "He's just a name. He couldn't sell a ticket. He couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery right now."

Rock and roll, though, has a new savior. "Now here comes Davy Jones, here comes the emotion, the drama, the real," he said. Well, he certainly has a real something. "Underneath the tinsel and fabric is real tinsel and fabric," he continued. "I have no competition with any teen idols or anybody else."

Jones will get a chance to look through the past darkly when Daydream Believer airs on VH1 in the summer. The four stars of VH1's Monkees movie were plucked from nationwide auditions last month. Would-be Monkees had to sing, be able to pretend to play an instrument and, obviously, look like a Monkee.

The lucky thespians are Aaron Lohr (Mickey Dolenz), George Stanchev (Davy Jones), Jeff Geddis (Mike Nesmith) and L. B. Fisher (Peter Tork). The 23-year-old Lohr is something of a show biz veteran, having played a Bash Brother in the Mighty Ducks films opposite Emilio Estevez, "Mush" in the 1992 film Newsies and appeared in a Pia Zadora music video. Lohr also sings in a Los Angeles band called RC Cru. Stanchev and Geddis are both from Toronto, while Fisher lives in New York. The film is currently in the midst of a month-long Toronto shoot. VH1 hopes to air the completed Daydream Believer sometime in the summer.
