  Hi all!

Just got confirmation from Micky's camp (Jane, his personal private executive
secretary) that Micky Dolenz will be playing golf in the Mark and Brian Celebrity
Golf Tournament March 18th at the Coyote Hills Golf Course in Fullerton, Ca.
He is scheduled to play in the "gold" tournament, the assumption being that
Micky actually plays quite well. There are a number of other celebrities
appearing,
such as: Vince Neil of Motley Crue, Dick Butkus, former Linebacker for the L.A.
Rams, Mac Davis, Meatloaf, Daniel Baldwin, Judd Nelson, Super Dave Osborne,
and Ryan Stiles (Drew Carey), with more TBA.

You can pay $500 donation, and actually play IN the tourney, or pay just
$10 and be in the gallery. The celebs will be mixed in with donators in foursomes,
for a total of 160 golfers.

Get out your checkbook, make a donation, and play golf with Micky Dolenz! Or,
just pay $10 and watch!

To catch a glimpse of Micky, watch "Where Are They Now? Child Stars" on VH1. According to the VH1 schedule, it will be repeated on Thursday, February 10th (tomorrow) from 6pm to 7pm EST. They don't talk about Micky being a child star himself, but they show a picture of Micky during the segment on Brandon Cruz...& they run an audio clip of Micky singing a song called "Eddie is a Punk".

And..."The List" show on VH1 with Peter, which was just repeated on February 5th, will be repeated yet again on Wednesday March 1st @ 11pm EST/10 central. So if you haven't seen it yet, don't miss it this time...he's so cute in it.

Waddell" This obituary for John Kuehne appeared in the San Antonio Express News. John Kuehne is better known to Monkees fans as John London, Mike's stand-in for the Monkees TV show and a member of Michael Nesmith & The First National Band. John C. Kuehne, 58, of Rockport, TX, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 12, 2000 at his home. He was born February 6, 1942 in Bryan, TX to Oscar and Lorraine Kuehne. He was raised in San Antonio, TX and was Baptized at Monte Vista Baptist Church. He accomplished the high honor of Eagle Scout. John attended high school in Munich, Germany. Upon returning to San Antonio, John attended San Antonio College where he and Michael Nesmith won a musical contest. With his father's blessing, John and Mike moved to California to seek his dream of becoming a musician. He did! Among his many musical accomplishments, John was a singer, a writer, and a fine bass player. He played with stars like Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Lewis & Clarke and the Monkees. He was an angler and a craftsman, as well as he had a career with San Antonio Express and News. John and Vicki had two beautiful sons, Michael and Ryan. John had been a friend and a father who loved and was loved deeply. John lived in Rockport, TX with his wife, Lana; and cherished daughter, Katherine. John loved life and lived it to the fullest. He traveled the world extensively but always returned to the sea for calm and sweet repose. His sisters, Carole and Dorothy Ann; and his father, Oscar will miss him beyond words. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lana Kuehne of Rockport; two sons, Michael Christopher (Jessica) Kuehne of San Antonio, and Ryan Carl (Vanessa) Kuehne of Houston; his daughter, Katherine Lorraine Kuehne of Rockport; his father, Oscar Kuehne of Boerne; and two sisters, Carole (Branch) Hart of Boerne, and Dorothy Kuehne of San Antonio; one grandchild, Sydney; and one on the way. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Rockport with Rev. Walter Knight officiating. Burial will follow at Rockport Cemetery. Kuehne, a former San Antonian who enjoyed a moment in the spotlight, playing with musicians like the Monkees, Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor, has died. He died suddenly Saturday at his Rockport home. He was 58. A native of Bryan, Kuehne spent most of his childhood in San Antonio and was an accomplished bass player early in life. He attended San Antonio College, where he and Michael Nesmith won musical competitions and later moved to California to pursue careers. When Nesmith later was chosen for a starring role with the Monkees, a 1960s television sitcom about a pop music group, Kuehne became a backstage player with the show. Under his stage name of John London, Kuehne did some musical work with the group and also played small roles in some of the episodes. He later worked as a studio musician, playing with Ronstadt, Taylor and others. Kuehne left California and returned to San Antonio in the early 1970s after he became a father. "He was a family man, and the music industry wasn't his life," said his wife of 17 years, Lana Kuehne. Kuehne worked in advertising sales for both the San Antonio Express-News and the San Antonio Light. After the Light closed in 1993, Kuehne and his family moved to the Gulf Coast, where he spent several years working at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Since 1995, he was "semi-retired," his wife said, devoting much of his time to two great loves in his life, fishing and carpentry. Kuehne devoted hours to remodeling the family home in Rockport, and was an accomplished angler. Besides his wife, Kuehne is survived by two sons, Michael Christopher Kuehne of San Antonio and Ryan Carl Kuehne of Houston; a daughter, Katherine Lorraine Kuehne of Rockport; his father, Oscar Kuehne of Boerne; two sisters, Carole Hart of Boerne and Dorothy Kuehne of San Antonio; and one grandchild. Services are set for 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Rockport. Burial will be in Rockport Cemetery. Arrangements are with Charlie Marshall Funeral Home of Rockport. Randi L. Show Business, the trade paper, has a casting notice this week for the VH1
Monkee biopic. They're looking for four young men, ages 18-23, to play
"actors who play rock stars."

And yes, the ad says "Must come down for interview."

Marilyn Beck's column

Here's the exact blurb from her syndicated column, January 31:

Given the trend toward TV biopics of rock stars, you'd have to figure
someone would get around to the truly unique saga of the Monkees---and VH1
has.  They're going to do a movie called "Daydream Believers: The Story of
the Monkees", beginning production in mid-March.  Casting is underway for
actors to portray Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Mike
Nesmith---the foursome who were cast as a rock'n'roll band for TV in the
'60s---and according to casting sources, agents have been notified that
"musical ability is a plus, but not a necessity." Just the way it was when
they cast the real Monkees.
The four were recruited after some 500 other Monkees wannabees (including
Stephen Stills and Three Dog Night's Danny Hutton) auditioned and were
turned down.  Nesmith and Tork were musicians, Dolenz and Jones were actors
who frantically learned to play instruments to appear competent when the
band went on tour---though the first Monkees records featured their singing
only, with music played by studio musicians.  After much angst, Nesmith told
a 1967 press conference crowd, "There comes a time when you have to draw the
line as a man.  We're being passed off as something we aren't"---and told
the truth about The Monkees' recordings.  They went on to play their own
music, and ground out successive Top 10 hits.  However, when the series
ended, their days of glory ended.

Only the first 1,000 applicants will be auditioned for the roles of Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork, Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones, who themselves were cast under similar circumstances for the 1966-68 television series. The film is slated to begin production in mid-March in Toronto. The monkees were mentioned having something to do with someone casting for the monkees (movie?) and why didnt they ask the original monkees, they probably arnt doing anything anyway... and then asked the band if they were monkees fans.. oh well.. at least its a mention.. Robin-Pickles ++++++++++++++++++ From: brunobaby@accesshub.net Show Business, the trade paper, has a casting notice this week for the VH1 Monkee biopic. They're looking for four young men, ages 18-23, to play "actors who play rock stars." And yes, the ad says "Must come down for interview." --The Funky Cold Meldina ++++++++++++++++ From: "maggie mcmanus" Marilyn Beck's column Here's the exact blurb from her syndicated column, January 31: Given the trend toward TV biopics of rock stars, you'd have to figure someone would get around to the truly unique saga of the Monkees---and VH1 has. They're going to do a movie called "Daydream Believers: The Story of the Monkees", beginning production in mid-March. Casting is underway for actors to portray Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Mike Nesmith---the foursome who were cast as a rock'n'roll band for TV in the '60s---and according to casting sources, agents have been notified that "musical ability is a plus, but not a necessity." Just the way it was when they cast the real Monkees. The four were recruited after some 500 other Monkees wannabees (including Stephen Stills and Three Dog Night's Danny Hutton) auditioned and were turned down. Nesmith and Tork were musicians, Dolenz and Jones were actors who frantically learned to play instruments to appear competent when the band went on tour---though the first Monkees records featured their singing only, with music played by studio musicians. After much angst, Nesmith told a 1967 press conference crowd, "There comes a time when you have to draw the line as a man. We're being passed off as something we aren't"---and told the truth about The Monkees' recordings. They went on to play their own music, and ground out successive Top 10 hits. However, when the series ended, their days of glory ended. maggie monkeebiz@prodigy.net ++++++++++++++++++++++ From: "Band 6" For UK fans The episode of Roseanne with David as a guest star is due to be shown here on Channel 5 at 9am on Monday 21st Februrary Kirk & Sue www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~bandsix The Monkees Alert list is moderated, meaning you cannot post directly to the list yourself. For the open casting call in L.A. this morning, they had none other than our own P.T. standing by! It was on Good Morning LA on the FOX network. First, my nabe came over and said "Hey, (hey) the Monkees are on channel 11. This was at 8:10 AM, and I was just about to leave for work. Well, I waited through numerous "we'll be right back with the Monkees", and a few hundred commercials, had to wait for the "adopt a pet" bit, they finally showed a clip with the "Stepping Stone" romp, then went to another commercial. , at 8:49 AM, they showed Peter standing in front of the Monkee-wanna-be's. He was in a GREAT mood, cracking jokes about "These guys all wanna be me!" and "Any time I'm on TV I'm happy!" They asked him (he had an earpiece in) if he got to do any of the judging, and he said "No, cuz I'd just pick the best- looking guy and he would play me!" The whole thing lasted about a minute, but Peter was obviously having a good time. They showed the line of dudes, it was at least 60 of them, some of them in the classic red and white button shirt, but frankly many of them looked too old. Peter had a monitor nearby, and was obviously jazzed seeing himself on TV. It was fun! I had also heard mention that some or all had already been cast, subject to the director's scrutiny, and that it might just be a promo thing. Oh, well, it was worth being late for work, just to see Peter having a good time. 'Tay, 'nuff said. TODJ The Monkees Alert list is moderated, meaning you cannot post directly to the list yourself.
